Two Questions
#1 How do you define hunting? I don't want the classic the act or pursuit of game. I want your definition.
#2 Why do you hunt?

Hunting is loosing lots of precious time sleeping--running late to your grounds most of the time--always forgetting something that you'll need later--buying things you don't really need--staying out all day in all kinds of weather--and just hoping to see something
I like to hunt just to be part of the outdoors whether a shot is made or not and enjoy watching something you can't find on any tv

Hunting is putting in your time to find the game you are after, working on your stragities, loosing sleep dreaming about that buck, and sitting all day on stand even when you don't see anything. Hunting is glassing the fields when season isn't even in, playing by the rules, and harvesting your game the RIGHT way.
I hunt for the feeling I get when I look around and I spot the flicker of a deer's tail in the distance. I get a rush of warmth, my muscles lock, and my senses become honed to my target. All of these feelings rush over me every time I see a doe, spike, or the deer of a lifetime. It isn't just deer either, the thunder of a turkey gobbling, or a rabbit running from underneath my feet in the brush does the same thing. I hope I never loose this feeling.

Hunting is hanging out in bars, drinking beer and watching the girls get prettier with each fresh beer.

I can't put it into words, but after a day of hunting I feel real good inside. The only thing I can relate it to is that clean, refreshed feeling you get after a great church service. I've heard people say that hunting will make you a better person and I didn't really understand how that might work. This season so far, I've spent more time afield then anyother and I would have to agree. Hunting is so simple, so basic in nature that it serves as one of the only mediums that can connect us to our ancestors. And honestly (coming from a 21 yr. old) hunting is my anti drug (if you will). Hunting keeps me outta the bars on the weekend, working hard during the week so I can hunt on saturday and sunday, and makes me so tired that all I want to do is go to bed when I return (which is great when you have 8am class.) I can say with confidence that if I continue to remain passionate and consistant with hunting I will make a much better person/husband/father because of it. Maybe thats why hunting makes me feel so good. Thats just my 2 cents, happy hunting!
