I was with a friend of mine when his girlfriend called him and told him about this. He worked with the guy at UPS. She did not know the particulars of what happened. Pretty tragic to say the least.

I heard that the guy and his buddy were hunting together. One on stand and the other on the ground. The hunter who was shot was on the ground and began rattling antlers. His buddy in the stand saw/heard the antler rattling and shot in the direction of the other hunter and killed him.

This is only a rumor, I have no facts, nor do I declare this to be accurate information.

However it happened it is a tragedy. My sympathies go out to both families.

Everyone remember, ALWAYS wear your orange! Also, take a pair of binoculars if you plan to glance fields, you never know what or who you are pointing your gun at!

Prayers to the family. AND prayers to everyone that hunts that we all remain safe for the rest of the season, and seasons to come.

He was shot by his hunting buddy. Supposedly he walked up behind his buddy and the guy just turned and shot him. What happened to making sure of what you are shooting at? For his buddy to just turn and shoot without taking time to identify his target he had to be really close to hit him like he did. I know this is really sad, but I just don't understand how you turn and shoot something behind you without seeing what it is first.

I could not imange how his buddy must feel, this goes against all that everyone has ever been taught about fireamrs and hunting.. to shoot in the direction on sound alone its just unimangable :(

When are we going to learn to identify the target. What a terrible tragedy for both families. My prayers go out to them. I hope that everyone who hears about this tragedy will take taht extra second and be sure of what they are shooting at as well as what is the backdrop.

This is a good example of why you need to show a hunter's safety card before you can buy a license.

Hunter's fatal wound was not self-inflicted

The Courier-Journal

Autopsy results show that a Crestwood man who was killed while hunting deer in Henry County on Tuesday died from a gunshot wound to his torso that was not self-inflicted.

It will be up to a grand jury to determine whether the death of Jeffrey D. McDonald, 45, was accidental or reckless in nature, authorities said.

Kentucky State Police, who are investigating the shooting, and Henry County Coroner Jimmy Pollard will hand over evidence to a grand jury, said Trooper Chip Perry.

Perry declined to release any further details.

McDonald was hunting in a rural wooded area about a quarter-mile from Drennon Road (Ky. 202) near Franklinton Road (Ky. 1360). Authorities were notified of the shooting about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.

It will be several weeks before the investigation report is final, Pollard said.

Though the woods are "excellent deer country" for hunters, Pollard said it was not easy for authorities to get to the site.

Henry County Sheriff Danny Cravens said he could not comment on the investigation.

But Cravens, who has served in law enforcement in the county for 25 years, said the county averages about one hunting fatality a year or every other year.

Some deaths have been ruled accidental, while others have been ruled the fault of reckless hunters, Cravens said.

I just found out today that I know the guy that did the shooting. I dont know him very well but he is one of the nicest people you would ever want to meet and had a friend of mine build him a house and I did alot of the work. He just transferred here because he loved Kentucky and they had an awesome house built and last time I saw him he said they couldn't be happier. Its amazing how in one little moment your life can turn around, I cant even imagine what him or either of the families are going through.

What a terrible thing that should have never happened. Be very careful out there guys. Its better to let the big one get away than have something like this happen.
