View Full Version : coyotes while jogging in lex.
Brush with nature tonite. Was jogging on Reynolds Rd right across from Culvers/Meijer at about 7:00 tonite. Thought I heard a little yelp/howl from the field (Shillito Park) pretty close. Stopped and walked about 15 yards into the dark field and saw a juvenile coyote about 40 yards from me. Hard to see him, but we had a little stare down, then he decided he didn't want any of that action so he hightailed it away. Not suprised to see him there, but a little suprised he was vocal with me jogging so close by.

they need to migrate toward Dunbar High School.......... seen several ground hogs there!!!!!!
I'd like to see a coyote take on a 40 pound groundhog. Bet that'd be quite a battle.

Wow, I can see the exact spot you were in - my office is in that office park with all of the brick buildings next door.
Very strange, the park really isn't that big and is far from 'wild'.

I see them quite often on my way to and from work on the I-75 side of Man-O War. Last year though I noticed more foxes than I had seen in a long time.

I almost hit a fox on Todd's Road out by I-75 and Man-O-War last week.
I live out there in Andover -- my dogs both got sprayed by a skunk on my back deck about a month ago. A guy I work w/ lives on the other side of Andover and his neighbor (a cop) shot a skunk in the back yard w/ a 45ACP mid summer (not safe at all, could have easily killed someone). I've thought about zapping that skunk if I see it again with a sub-sonic 22 rifle shot, but still don't know. I'd be shooting down (have a deck and yard slopes a bit) and have a pretty tough 8' wood fence...but still don't know.

huh, must me fairly common problem out there. we just finished putting a deck on a new house over on Blackford Parkway and the new home owners had been renting somewhere close by till the house was finished. The first thing he asked us was if we had seen or smelled any skunks (we have done quite a bit of work over there in the last year). Seems he had been having problems with them in the house he was renting.
mcdenny,
I think the red fox population is on the upswing. seeing them on trail cameras and on BG parkway more now than I have in years

I too have seen several yotes' in Lexington, but am too somewhat surprised that he was in that location being so vocal towards you. I'm sure most people wouldn't think twice after seeing it because they would mistaken it for a dog, but us hunters/outdoorsmen know better, lol.
Yeah, I got back and told my wife I had a coyote stalking me on my run.

Skunks probably come up to your deck to look/dig for worms. They are grub eaters, not out to hurt anybody. I would not want them around my yard, but wouldn't just shoot one for the heck of it. You could skin it out, skunks were 5-8 dollars last year.
