I just bought 154 acres in Lawrence county (just south of Louisa), and need a bit of help, possibly from one of the folks on here.

What I'd be interested in doing (and this would involve a signed contract, among other things) would be allowing someone to have full access to hunting this land, in exchange for assisting in taking care of it.

Here's the situation:

I live in Louisville, and work 50-60 hours a week. Got a wife, four kids, and six dogs to take care of. Bought the land for hunting and retirement purposes (will build there when I leave the job in 12 years or so). Currently, I can make it out there about once per month on the average. Obviously, that's an issue with the land being a 3.5 hour drive one-way.

There's a lot of folks currently just running ATV's and hunting on my land. Was out there for opening weekend, and saw numerous people where they're not really supposed to be. I'd like that stopped, as I work a LOT of hours to pay for that land, and the equipment I have on it.

So, in exchange for virtually unlimited hunting rights on the place, I need a caretaker of sorts. Just someone who can drop by at least once per week and check on things. Make sure my stands are OK, cameras are still there (I bring them down after deer season, but leave the stands), etc. On my monthly trips, I usually do the maintenance with the cams (batteries, exchange memory cards) and feeders, so that wouldn't be an issue. Just need someone to run folks off the land who aren't allowed there, and to help out with what I mentioned.

Obviously, this needs to be a local guy, not someone from Morehead or Lexington, etc. I know there's a few of you folks from that area on here, so if you're interested, either post in here, or PM me.

Here's some more details on the land, FYI:

154.18 acres. Lots of turkey (seen them every time I've been out, and coulda run them down with the ATV several times). Deer are numerous, and I couldn't find the big buck I shot on Saturday. Lost him in the brush, but he looked to be 200+ lbs easily. Plenty of habitat for quail (if they ain't there yet, I'm buying some birds and releasing them out there...gonna get with QU about that). Lots of good rabbit hunting, and I've heard grouse, as well. Oh, and did I mention elk? Heard a cow elk mewing both Saturday and Sunday early AM (before daylight), and heard a bull responding to her on Sunday AM. The southern border of the land is the Lawrence/Martin county line, and as we all know, Martin county is an elk restoration zone, so....I already have MY out-of-zone tag.

Being that I work in law enforcement, I'm instinctively...umm..."cautious" is the polite term I guess, of folks I meet, until I get to know them. So, I'll need folks to do a background check for me....we'll get into details of that later. Basically, I don't want some jackass who likes to hunt, but has grows weed or makes meth, using my place. In addition to the Courtnet stuff (that's where the background will come from), I'm gonna be talking with the local folks about you, as well.

Not trying to sound like a distrustful SOB, but I've worked in Louisville for close to eight years, and I've seen folks you'd never think would commit a crime be arrested and convicted for the most serious things you can think of...but, to have access to 154 acres of good hunting, I don't think I'm asking much.

So, getting past that stuff....if you live out that way, and think this sounds like a good opportunity, let me know.
