was wondering if anybody has had trouble with there encores misfiring?? i have one in a 300 win. mag, and it has misfired 2 times out of 7 shots. a couple of my buddies has had the same problem. one is in 270 and the other 30-06. we called t/c and the first question they asked was if we had hammer extensions, and of course we do. they said that is what was causing it, the extra weight on the hammer is slowing it down. does anybody have any thoughts on this or had problems like this???? thanks, marty

Did you change ammo during this time? It is possible that certain primers are "tougher" than others and require more punch.
If the folks at TC went straight to the extension, try taking it off and see what happens. Sounds like a common complaint that they've diagnosed many times. I've dealt with the folks at TC on numerous occasions and have found them to be very helpful and reliable.

Turkeyfoot,
Is everyone shooting factory ammo? (Handloads with the shoulder pushed back too far can cause misfires by creating excessive heaspace - ie; the firing pin is not long enough to reach the primer)
Also -These folks sell a stronger hammer spring (http://www.bellmtcs.com/store/index.php?cid=86&)they claim* aids ignition when using the hammer extension.
*I have no hands on knowledge of their products, just something I ran across on the net.

THAT WAS GONNA BE OUR NEXT STEP, WE ALL HAVE BEEN USING FACTORY AMMO. MY BOSS TRIED A COUPLE DIFFERENT BRANDS AND BOTH DONE THE SAME THING. HE PUT A NEW FRAME ON HIS GUN WITH NO HAMMER EXTENSION AND USED THE SAME SHELLS THAT MISFIRED AND THEY FIRED WITH NO PROBLEM.
SO I GUESS I ANSWERED MY OWN QUESTION!!!! TAKE THE HAMMER EXTENSION OFF!!! THANKS GUYS FOR YOU RESPONSES.

I kept the hammer ext. and installed the Bellm x-tra power spring. No misfires on 3 different barrels. My .264 Win Mag barrel has .009" headspace, .003" longer than SAAMI max. specs. It has never mis-fired. The spring is cheap insurance and easy to install.
If you use a scope it will be difficult to cock the hammer without the extension.

My buddy bought a 25.06 set up this year and his didn't fire when he tried to shoot a doe. Tried twice and no BOOM! He put the hammer extension on last week and fired a few rounds with no trouble, but this week OOOPS.
