I shot a large buck this weekend. After field dressing it and lifting it into the car I have had a lot of back pain. Do you guys (partciularly ones over 50 like me!) have suggestions on how you haul out your deer, field dress it, and get it in the car without throwing out your back?
Used to be easier it seems when I was younger!

I was thinking the same thing I had a devil of a time gettin my deer in the truck this year. I should have driven my jeep but I didnt and man I am stiff today. Getting older stinks things are not as easy as they once where.
Call for help from friend and family.

i bought a gorilla hoist. it fits in a daypack, can lift 500lbs and has a gambrel included with it. i use it for getting the deer into my mule, and hanging them for processing. most of the deer i shoot really do not need the hoist, most can be lifted with one arm to a suitable hanging height in my skinning/processing tree, but in the event i do kill a whopper, i will be ready:D

first, you need a cart or an ATV. Then you need a hitch on the back and a hoist. They normally fit in a 2" receiver. fairly in expensive and you can load one by yourself and then use it while you process.

Multi. . .I am not familiar with a hoist that works from the receiver hitch. I have an Explorer with hitch and a slide in with ball. If I got a game cart, how do you get the deer from the cart to vehicle? Does the hoist attach to the hitch?

a ditchline works great if ya got a 4x4. just back your truck into the ditch or depression and load'em up.
I saw this one in Outdoor Life several years ago. The read,"How To Load your Deer while hunting alone." It is a quite simple project. Get a sheet of 1/2 Plywood cut 2 rectangular "handles" in each end of the full sheet. in the center of one end attach a "eye bolt" to this attach a rope or heavy leather strap.
Here is how it works:
1)Lay the plywood deer loader behind your truck with the tailgate down.
2)Drag the deer onto the plywood loader and use the rope / Strap to secure the antler or head of the deer to the eye bolt.
3) Using the handles you cut into the plywood lift and scoot the board to the lip of the tailgate.(Be sure to load the deer head first into the bed of the truck.
4)Move to the oppisite end of the board. Using the handles at that end lift and slide the deer /board and all into the bed of the truck.
5)Close the tailgate and enjoy your trip to the processor.
