This might sound funny to most but this is my first deer with a 30/30. I hunted with one when I was a young kid back in the 70s and never had the chance to take a deer with one. As the years went by I had several guns of diferent calibers custom built and forgot about the old 30/30. hunted this morning and this afternoon with the old gun and has some luck.

This one fell to a 170 hp at 40 yrds. I think I will try my first skull mount for this one white should look good with the dark horns.

Nice buck. The kind of gun you shoot doesn't matter to the deer.

I noticed those dark horns, nice character.

The type of gun means nothing it is shot placement. For me though I packed a win 94 in my younger days when if you even got to see a deer it was a great season. When I was 17 some one stole some guns from us and I never replaced the ole 94 and a few months back my dad bought the one I used for a good price and gave it to me to clean up and I decided to use it this season. Its just a sentimental thing to me going back to the days of my youth.
Good luck folks and have a great and safe season.

Congrats on a very nice buck. Dont let ppl rag on yah too much about the 30/30, All I ever take in the woods. Most of the time where I hunt its gonna be a close shot anyways, and alot of thick brush. In my book the old 30/30 has plenty of knock down power for a white tail.
