Well, to start off, I had a good buck come in on me WAY before shooting light. He was running a doe, and there was no way I was going to be able to keep him in the area with my bleat call. Two other people snuck in on the farm I am hunting and shot, but I never could find where the hunters came from, or where they went. Then, as I was coming out of the woods, I heard a "POP" come from the front end of my 4-wheeler. Somehow, I busted the lower ball joint on the lower a-arm of my 4-wheeler. So it is now out of commission. And with my back in the shape that it is in, I don't really need to be dragging deer out of the woods by myself. I'm sure I won't be able to get the part to fix my 4-wheeler until at least monday, so I don't know what I am going to do. I'm NOT going to give up hunting all weekend, but I may just have to let any deer I shoot lay until I can get some help. I hope all of your hunts went better than mine.:(

You can always half it or quarter it to get it out. That's what I've had to do on many occasions. Anyway sorry to hear about your crappy morning. Mine wasn't much better.

I'm just going to hook my cargo carrier to the back of my SUV, drive in as far as I can, and walk the rest of the way. I'll figure out how to get the deer out after I have shot one. I'm getting ready to leave the house in about 30 mins. Good luck guys.

Xi, I know having a quad saves on dragging but if you kill a good buck you want to mount you should load it on the bike to save the cape. Sounds like you may need help anyway if you kill a mountable buck. Get out there and stick with them, finding a little help to get a deer out should be no problem!

LU, would you like someone to kick you while you were down? I don't like taking up for a lefty :Dbut he is a fellow hunter!

Count your blessings. At least you got to hunt. My father gives permission to some distant relative that doesn't belong in the woods(shoots at anything that moves) and I won't go near the property when he is around. Too dangerous for me. I haven't got to hunt my family farm for several years.

Got a question, how did you know it was a good buck chasing a doe, if it was way before shooting light? Deer cart will fix your dragging a deer out problem.

I could see the backs of the deer and his rack silhouetted against the field line close to where I was hunting, and the deer came within 20 yards of me.

Oh I don't drag them out, I put a rope around their neck, throw it over a tree limb, and use the 4wheeler to pull it off the ground. That way I can position the deer over the rack of the 4 wheeler and let it down right on the rack. I don't like dragging deer behind a 4 wheeler anyway, it bruises the meat.

Heck, after going through all that, you might as well just skin and debone it right there while it's hanging.

I would if I had a cooler to put all the meat in!:D
