Either I have gone deaf or something bad is wrong. Been sitting out on the deck for a half hour and have not heard that first shot. Strange to say the least. In the past it has sounded like a war this time of morning on opening day of modern firearm.

Man it is killing me that I am sitting here at this computer and not in my tree stand. :(I am waiting on a phone call from my buddies that are hunting my spot to hear the good news but nothing yet. I will be out there next weekend to get the ones that slipped by today. :DI can't wait to read about everyones success today.

A few more shots heard in the last half hour so things may be picking up.

Quiet here this morning too. I took a quick spin around the back fields of the farm this morning at daylight to make sure the neighbors weren't hunting over here again. All was quiet and I didn't see any deer either. Our back field usually has a few every morning during gun season because we don't allow gun hunting so it's a safe haven for them. We had a heavy frost on this morning down here don't know if that has anything to do with anything or not, just thought I'd mention it.

I heard 20-25 shots this morning until 7am, after that nothing.....

After I got off work this morn called my daughter and husband hunting in Hart and they had seen 4 deer with a small 6 pt and heard over 30 shots already----then called my nefphew in Metcalfe, he hadn't seen anything but also heard over 30 shots and this was all by 8:00

First opening day ive ever had without seeing a single deer. Thats been the case pretty much all season, as well as the last 4 years. 2003 was the last good year we had. I didnt hear that much shooting, and out of 8 people hunting at my club this afternoon, we saw NOTHING. Opening morning of 2003 there was 9 of us hunting on 400 acres and we saw 59 deer. Im beginning to wonder where the 300,000 more deer there are since then are at now. Ive talked to people all over kentucky and everyone says the same thing. Its getting really old going hunting and not seeing anything. I may see a little buck here and a young doe there, but no big bucks or mature does. Up until 2004, we had tons of deer, and alot of big mature bucks. It was nothing to see 15 deer a sitting. Now if i see anything besides a squirrel im excited. Ive hunted at least 30 days this year, and havent seen a mature doe. If someone would have told me that last year or any year prior to this year id if never believed them. Im gonna stick with it until the end of bow season though. I desperatley want to get my first deer with a bow, ive had plenty of opportunities at young deer but id rather harvest something mature. Good hunting everyone...

I heard about 10 to 12 shots including the 2 i shot.It was quieter than normal here.We saw 3 does and 2 bucks.

I'm hunting outside of Hopkinsville and they were shooting it up pretty good. We heard lots of shots this morning and this afternoon.

i could not belive this morning i saw one deer and found only a few sign i heard one shot.last year on the opening morning i heard at least 50 shots at this location,went back this afternoon and saw nothing and only heard one shot.everone i talked to had the same luck.i belive the deer herd is way down here in perry county.

I hace been told I was full of crap for the last 3 monthes, there are no deer left. They have died off. A GUY HUNTING BEHIDE MY HOUSE FOUND 9 DEAD IN ONE HOLLER.:cool: I know it sucks but that just the way it is.
