Ladies and Gentlemen. The first item of business for our organization seems to be that all sports persons in this state would like to know ahead of time what is going to be on the table at Commision meetings. It has been suggested that they be put on KDFW's website as well as mentioned on Kentucky Afield in advance of the meetings.

Often times things are voted on and passed without any one being aware. In this day and time the shareing of info is as easy as logging on. I say lets get our cards on the table. How about you all?

we as sportspeople do have the right to know what is to be legislated and this site would be a great site to publicate all notifications and laws that are going to be proposed and voted on by the commision.

My fingers are still sore from tying on this topic last night.
I say:

POST THE AGENDA & MINUTES OF THE COMMISSION MEETINGS!

I agree. I would like to see them posted and have notification. 75% of the time it will be nothing we are concerned with but that other 25%, whew, if we had some advanced warning it could make a big difference.

I just recently asked the folks from the UBK to post a section similar to this with meeting dates and agendas so members knew what was going on and when they were going on. I think we should do the same but how do we get that info from the KDFWR?

I agree. The KDFW needs to quit singing it and just bring to the people that pay the piper that being the sportsmen and women of Kentucky. Let us know what is on their minds so we can have our say.

I think they should be posted. My question though is why have they NOT been posted? If the Commissioners are supposed to represent the sportsmen and women of KY, then there should be no problem.

I believe that this would be a great first step in helping communication between the average Joe Blow sportsman and the KDFWR. In my opinion, if the KDFWR refuses, then that is going to create some VERY NEGATIVE publicity for them, and Mr. Bennett (sp?) specifically.

Xtreme, in the letter that is drafted, I think you should add the above paragraph, and address the letter to Tom Bennett, with a cc: of Roy Grimes and the Commissioners.

I wholeheartedly agree Sarge! Hopefully we will see progress.

I would like to know what is happening beforehand also. We have a right to know if it is going to affect us.

Xtreme, gsp, Birdman, and myself talked about this at Wilmore today. What we are going to try to do is get the AGENDA for the divison meetings posted prior to the meetings taking place. Even though these meetings are closed to the public, this is where the decisions are made. The actual Commission Meeting is simply a formality. Everything has already been decided. We are going to try to get the agenda for the division meetings and then the minutes of the commission meeting posted. This way, if there is an issue that is going to be coming up before the commission, we will have fore-warning on it and will be able to lobby some people for or against whatever is planned. Having the minutes posted will let everyone know how everything turned out and HOW THE COMMISSIONERS VOTED!

i hope we can this info. it really seems that the comms. dont want anyone to know their agenda, no one can rock their boat.

ez
08-11-2002, 08:45 AM
i think if we rock their boat it will have to come out. the information that they have is of and should be public knowledge. after all, these are the laws to which we are to be governed and to follow......ez

As soon as we have our by-laws and are attached to the league officially I will ask for a vote for or against drafting a letter stateing that we request the agenda and minutes be made public.

I know it's going to be AYE!! But we have to observe proper procedure once we are official.

Just an idea, but why don't we let The Lexington Herald Leader start a investigation as to why the commission is so secret with their doing??

Xtreme

Good thinking Nathan. Hopefully the Dept. will realize that with the amount of support this is recieving they will realise it is in their best interest to co-operate with the sportsmen of this state on this matter.

My God, whats the big deal anyway? You can turn on your TV to one of those news channels and watch Congress and the House of Rep's hashing it out and that is involving the operation of our country!

Something to think about before we sick the dogs on them. They have not been "asked" by anyone (other than me) to do this yet. I think we owe it to them to ask first.

Xtreme
08-12-2002, 08:24 PM
It has been my understanding that this subject has been brought up with them. If not then you are right. "Sicking" dogs is the last course of action we want to take. I will get to the bottom of this.

I hate to mention it but the dreaded Delaney from the Bowsite has mentioned that we need to contact the State Attorney General and get them involved for not having open records on public meetings. Seems he thinks it is mandated, or at least that's what they found out in Indiana when they had the same problem. The only diffeence might be in the two agencies and how they are funded. Maybe with the Kentucky Dept. not funded by any General Fund dollars, they don't have to comply with any open records laws. I would think thy do and for sure think they should. I would like to know what our legal options are.

Xtreme

In essence when we draft a letter requesting that the agenda and commision meeting minutes be posted we will be asking. Everyone is assuming we will hit a brick wall with this. Given the amount of support this has they may agree wholeheartedly.

One thing I always try to live by is thou shalt not assume. Highbows post and my answer are worst case scenario. I don't think it will come to that or I hope it doesn't.

Asking and them saying OK is good, but we need it in the requirements that the public (us) have time to comment and support/rally against EACH item that is voted on by the Commision. They have been known to slip one or two items in there without pre-planning, have they not(PWA)?

Birdman
08-12-2002, 09:02 PM
The dept. does fall under the open books law I've been there with them on an issue, and had a ruling from the att. general and received what I asked for that's one reason their pissed. They have seven days to reply. You should send a reg. letter, or you'll have no proof. I'm sure on this.

Good news on this gents. I have spoken with Roy Grimes and he is willing to work with us on this. He will get back to me in a few days. Thats good because I will gone till Mon. Progress is at hand.

It looks like we may not need a letter drafted after all.

Birdman
08-13-2002, 05:32 PM
We should draft one to make it offical and be on record, just in case.

Wise council. When I get back from W VA I will draft a letter requesting what we would like to see happen. If all is well I will draft a letter as well thanking all those concerned.

I sent a E-mail that was polite and professional but to the point to Roy and I got a response that was likewise. I'm considering that a darn good start to what we all seek to achieve. Positive , professional and polite COMMUNICATION!.......Cyber style.

Hey multi, Delaney is 100% right on this one. it doesn't matter how its funded. the kydfw has to so us stuff if we ask for it. I back Delaney on this one. It's to bad that i don't live close enough to Frankfort, cause i know just what to do to get the records. might cost a few dollars for printing, but in the end it would be worth it.

Also why i think of it. these meeting the Kyf&w has that are during the day needs to stop. The meeting should be after working hours for the general public to hear and comment on. The fish and wildlife people work for the sportsman of the state of Ky. not them seleves, so they need to stop having these early morning meeting , and letting thing pass without the public being invited. What are they scared of.

Just a thought to throw at my cyber friends. I heard a little bird from F&W tell me that while CyberHunters want all this communication posting from the Dept., they won't even use their real names on their own posts. While the cyber handles may be cute, you would add 100% more credibility to the organization if everyone would use their real names for posting. Who's scared now? - Walt Kloeppel

Geez Rick, don't kill the messenger! [:)] I know everyone knows who you are, but there's a few that post here that are mysteries when you try to access them. I've been doing this internet thing for about five years with bowsite now (that's why I don't post too much anymore, can you spell burnout?)and at one time we had some real pot stirrers that wouldn't put a name to it, it was even rumored for awhile that it was animal rights folks. They finally got tired and went away. Mark remembers those days, when Gary Logsdon was active.

It's a little different giving your name out at a face to face meeting and posting it here for the whole world to see. I've given mine out plenty and don't usually mind until I found out that some idiot in Madison county used my info to register for college there and stuck me with a registration fee, student loan and an academic probation rating on a manuscript from a school I never attended.
There are antis out there just drooling for names and addresses too.
I don't blame shogan either.
If anyone wants to discredit these guys for using handles then let THEM step up and say who THEY are instead of murmering behind the scenes!
I'm not a member and it's pretty easy for me to communicate anything I want to these guys (good or bad), so let them do their own talking and step up!
The forum title does say -CYBERHUNTERS OF KENTUCKY - PUBLIC FORUM-. Public being the key word!
Sounds like someone is too scared to come out in public themselves.

I wasn't mad at you Walt. Please don't take it that way as I meant no ill toward you. It's just that I have heard this same limp excuse not to take what a lot of GOOD folks on here say seriously before. It's not hard to tell who the chain yankers and trouble makers are and if there is any foolish posts the Dept. should ignore them the same as we do.

Don't worry , If I ever get mad at you I'll call you on the phone. It's a lot easier[:o)]

Give me a call this week and fill me in on your season so far. And once again, I was not[:(!] I have a lot of appreciation for all that you have done and continue to do for the sport that we cherish.
