me, my brother, a cousin and an uncle take a trip out of town every thanksgiving just to get away and enjoy the outdoors we usuall either take out the walkers for a good coonhunt up in Indiana or either deer hunt in western ky. but this year we are wanting to try duck hunting, my cousin is really the only one that duck hunts, so its really a new thing to all of us anyone have any recomendations on where a good guided duck hunting joint would be....thanks in advance!!

How far are you wanting to go?? If you want to spend a great weekend away, I'd suggest the Stuttgart area. Not necessarily hunting in Stuttgart, but more like North East of there. You could hunt in the mornings and go down to Stuttgart for the Wings Over the Prairie Festival and World Championship Duck Calling Contest. They also have the World Champion Duck Gumbo Cook-Off and lots of other events going on. Not to mention Mack's Prairie Wings retail location and the RNT shop. It's a long haul, but well worth it for great duck hunting and great fun after the hunt.

While stuttgart is a place every duckhunter should see at least once in thier lifetime, Arkansas is not the duck hunting mecca it once was. For the money you will pay to go with a outfitter there you will be better served to go elsewhere. Louisiana, texas are phenomonal. Illinois and Missouri are good also. FWIW.

I kill some birds here and sure others do pretty good, Kentucky is by and far not a waterfowlers dream. Personally I do notknow of any duck hunting guides in Kentucky. May consider Reelfoot lake instead.

Others on here may know of a waterfowl guide in Kentucky.

I think you would do well to go to Ohio. Ohio has more birds than us and it is a relatively close drive. I know some guides up there that do a really great job and run a good service. If you want the names of the guides let me know and I will PM them to you.

How much are you looking to spend per person per day to waterfowl hunt?

It will probably cost you $300 all inclusive to hunt most places that I know of in Ky. Most will probably be booked up by now. You might find some guides around Ballard or Henderson. Expect to pay $150 for a guided hunt to $300 for lodging, meals, guide plus tips. Expect to hunt at least 2 days.

If you're not into duckhunting you really shouldn't get started. It's like meth, you're usually hooked after the 1st time. Seems like all 1st timers have a great hunt the 1st time out & then the sickness starts.

Go with Mayes, it's free, save your money cause you'll want to go & buy decoys 1st thing.

Good luck!!

i agree i think you and your friends should go with mayes or someone else for free. this way you get a taste of it because you will get hooked and if your like me and my dad we spend every cent on the boat and gear, to hunt in Kentucky where there arn't that many ducks at all. i had a great wood duck hunt this year saw a couple hundred. though you have your good and bad days in everything it is like on steroids in Kentucky when it comes to duck hunting. you ether have great days or horrible days.

ether way if you go with a guide or with mayes good luck and have fun, i know i will on the water.
