Took my little brother out to a place I have to hunt in Fayette County. He shot 2 greenheads, 2 shovelers, and a coot. Ducks and geese were all over us.http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff231/ducknrun_bucket/IMG_0648.jpg

Awesome job! Sounds like it was a good day. I wish my brother was still young enough to be a youth. Ducknrun, I hunt in Fayette Co. too, we should get together and stack up some ducks when the real season opens up.

Congrats to your little bro.

Our youth hunt is after regular duck season. Everybody knows that it is much colder in Fayette county than over this way in late Jan. / early Feb., hence the reason they have yours early.

I'm still trying to figure that one out. No complaints here though, we're normally stacked with ducks and geese by then.

The explanation is that you all have blinds and pits and are more set up for a later in the year hunt. How much enthusiasm is there in West Ky for an early 2 day split in duck season for this weekend for next season?

I don't know about enthusiasm in general but it sure would be nice for some areas. Other areas are pretty much devoid of ducks right now. The hard freeze the middle of this week is probably going to send everything packing anyway, just like last year. :(

I can't see the guys with flooded fields wanting to go any earlier because earlier water on their fields might negatively impact the regular season.

Also, there are more people without heated pits and blinds than there are guys that own them or are in high $ leases. When you get much away from the refuge, folks' hunting style gets much more in line with what you guys do. Boats, layout blinds and natural cover. There seems to be a prevailing thought from the rest of the state that this entire area is like what is seen right around the Ballard refuge, but it is far from it. Even the lakes area has far more freelancers on it than people that hunt big floaters.
