I thought this would be interesting. There is a huge 170" typical (8,10, 12 pointer...your choice;)) standing 10 yards broadside in front of you. Right next to him is a 170" Non-Typical monster with the wildest rack you have ever seen (use your imagination) at the same distance. You WILL make the shot because you are just THAT good, so which one do you take? Think about it....

I voted "non-typical" but, of course, I've been drinkin'.

170 typical is a Boone and Crockett, 170 Non-typical is NOT a Boone and Crockett.
Give me the booner.

I'd probably take the typical, but I'd think that the n/t would be more of a rare find, thus the "non" in "non-typical"...

I was thinking the same way as Slick and would do the same thing in the exact scenario listed in Xi's thread. This is not because I like the typs over the non-typs but a 170 class typ is the bigger of the pair.

A 170" typicial is a pretty rare find also! Not to many of them running around.

Non-typical. I like the uniqueness of the rack versus the symetry of the typical rack. A once in a lifetime deer.

Forget B&C or P&Y. Which one would you prefer? a typical or non-typical rack?

I would take the typical with both scoring 170 but if they were both B&C min. of 170 typ. and 195 non typ. then I would take the non-typical.

I have never seen a non-typical while hunting so I would have to take the non-typical.

I love a rack with some character.

I have a rack on the wall that I thought was a non-typical, but when they scored it they did so as a typical...Without deductions it scored 162, with deductions it scored 111....But I'd shoot him every day of the week. I'll put up a pic later if anyone would like to see him...

Give me the knarley, knobby, kickered up, rack with all the junk! I really do not care what it scores, how symmetrical it is or all of that perfection crap. All I care is that it is a mature buck and that I took it in a fair chase situation with a bow and arrow. When they drafted the trophy records guidelines they must of been off their rockers to ever consider basing trophy by the perfect symmetry of a rack. I mean heck, we wouldn't want our women with their hips and bust the same size as their waists. I like curves and bumps myself.:D

I know a guy that actually had this happen to him, except that he had the choice to kill any one of 3 B & C bucks, one being a non-typical and the others were typical. He killed the one that his crosshires got on first, ended up scoring in the high 180's and was the largest buck killed in Ky. that year typical wise. 4 others hunted that area the rest of the year and none of the other two bucks were ever seen again or killed in the vicinity of the first one, which was killed on the Oct. ML weekend.

Take a look at the top two row bucks and see which ones you wouldn't shoot???

Sorry I have not put the pictures up yet...I cannot find any of the old pics so I need to take some pictures of the mount. I'll try to get them up tomorrow...

You can have the top row(although I like the one on the right), I want the middle one on the second row. 7 typical on one side is a DREAM.

The shed on the table scores better and is still out there somewhere.

Since the chances of getting a 170 typical and a 170 NT together are slim..
then you should wait until they are side by side and get them both with one shot ;)

i voted typical

As long as I'm dreaming I'm going to dream BIG......I'm in a state that allows two bucks to be harvested, I wait until they are lined up just right and take them both with one well placed shot!!!!:D:D:D:cool:
