Western Ky is a pretty big area.

Care to narrow that down a bit?

Honestly it is soooooo easy. For what you're going to pay someone to do, you can buy the equipment yourself. A big turkey is cheap enough to replace if you screw it up.

I had some last night that was delicious. Buy a deep fryer, a couple gallons of oil and thaw out ol' Tom. 40 minutes and you're in business.

While I love the finished product I hate the cooking process. Messy and a pita to clean up. I hope I have done my last one.

(Madisonville area)

Well thanks folks....I am thankful for all the info you guys have offered, in the archives, on the subject of doing it yourself. There was several pages of how to whip it up and the pros & cons. Some day I may go that route....

I guess this "fad" is has died down or at least according to a few news articles I have read it has. Seems odd to me....all I ever here is that it is awesome.

Anyways....I've not been able to find a well-advertised restaurant etc that does from Evansville, IN to Hopkinsville, KY.

Thanks for taking a moment to look at this!

bassvax it's really simple to do.

Just follow a couple safety rules and you are chowing down on a great dish ! Seriously it is easy ! ;)

Besides then you can use the fryer for fish, hushpuppies, french fries, crab boils, shrimp steamed in beer, hot cider,,,,, you get the idea.

It's like guns or fishin poles,,, can't have too many cooking devices. :D

For starters, I dont do a whole turkey, just the breast. I inject it with the Creole butter recipe the night before, I use kitchen string to stitch the skin together to conceal as much meat as possible.fry it up at 3-4 minutes per pound as per instuctions(I have found that once this cooking time has expired, cook another 5-10minutes,and a meat thermometer is your best friend)The hardest part is maintaining that 350F,at least it is with my cooker. This will be our 4th Thanksgiving with a fried turkey, its became tradition

Try a local caterer, they either cook them or know who does.

Hehe...C.L. I will probably break down and by a good cooker and the oil. It just didnt seem economical to spend all that for one turkey. Maybe I can talk some folk into chipping in for the oil and do some for them at the same time.

I thought this was pretty popular by now and that the BBQ places would be doing this...but apparently it didnt catch on that way.

Thanks CL and the rest....I'll git r dun one way or another...LOL

If you don't burn the turkey and are careful to strain the oil well, you can reuse it and save some money that way. Button can tell us the shelf life of the cooking oil, I'm sure.

Several of the bbq places over this way were doing it and I'm sure some of them still are.

I think it was a fad that kind of died out so a lot of them stopped.

They would have to have a lot of cookers to get them through the holiday rush unless they were manning the thing 24 hours a day. They can load a single pit up with turkeys, frying is still one at a time.

As trust me said, "IF YOU don't burn it",,,,,

I keep mine in a cool place, use it atleast 3 times a month and discard it after 6 months. I use it to cook large batches of Fries.

IF you are in doubt about it being ok after storage, just smell it. IF THE oil is turned ransid it will smell badly, otherwise it will just smell like what you have fried in it. I would not keep it any longer than one year either way. ;)
