I hunted Sunday evening and saw nothing, but heard, on the radio, a father and son talking. They were scouting for gun season and just scoping/glassing. The Dad said they were watching 5 bucks together, some sparing a bit, but not fighting hard. All were smaller bucks. The rest of the deer were does.

I was going to take off work on Monday morning to hunt because of the cold temps, but all those bucks being together with the does tells me the bucks aren't broken up yet and things aren't all that hot. So, I worked Monday morning.

I am scheduled to take off Friday, November 2. How about you guys who are hunting, especially in N. KY. give a report daily to see if the rut is heating up? I was a bit dissappointed with the fact that the whole herd was together like that. Any info is appreciated. Chris. 4SB

you never know w/ those younger bucks - they're always late to the game.

I've observed a mix of opinions on the matter from county to county but it is fair to say some are seeing chasing occur while others are seeing younger bucks soft spar.

I saw scraps, rubs, sparring and chasing, bucks together all last week. The rut never seems to come in like a lion more like a lamb.

I hunted last night and saw only two does. But that was at 2:30 in the afternoon. They walked right by the stand eating acorns. There were a few deer out in fields right at dark. Another guy had a few small bucks eating corn at 6:25 and more deer moving his way. If they aren't moving early then sit for as long as you can. They're going to move during the daylight.

Its different in different areas. What you are seeing can be totally different from what is going on a mile away.

I am seein awesome rubs and scrapes where I hunt but I have not seen any chasing/breeding yet.

The best way to figure out what is going on in the herd is look for roadkills.
