First off legal?

Next, whats best to use if legal?

I work at a rest. and have access to a lot of scrap meat (large pieces), could this work? All beef and some possible chicken parts. Reason asking is a friend would like to try it.

It is legal as far as I know for coyote. You can not set traps near such a pile, that is illegal.

But such a pile as your talking about will draw everything in the area including the neighbors dogs and other not target animals. And coyotes aren't that big on aged food sources. They prefer fresh meat.

On of the best bets if you wish to try such hunting is to find a hog farmer who dumps his carcasses somewhere on the place. This becomes a regular stop for every coyote in his area.. They love hog for some reason . I have seen cow carcasses go untouched by coyote's for an entire winter. Jimmie

If they are plentiful I would use roadkilled deer for such a bait pile. As long as it is kept baited for a while I don't see why it wouldn't work quite well. We all know they are eating deer fairly regular anyway. I saw a stripped deer carcass just the other day right beside th highway. Just down the road a piece from it was a dead coyote, came down with the same malady as the deer from the looks of it. Jimmie

If any livestock was medicated before it died, coyotes can tell. I dont know if they can smell it or what, but they wont touch it. And thats the case with most cattle because no one wants to see their money die.

I took a doe yesterday evening..A friend and I took the carcass to his farm.

It wasn't long after we got back to the farm house the coyotes started barking and howling not far from where we disposed of the
carcass..

We also put up our game cams, hopefully we will have some pics?

Bobcat pics would be awesome..

I have asked the local C.O. and the Sheriff about using road kill. They said it's ok, but it wouldn't hurt to talk to the local law where you live. They might say you need some sort of a permit to pick up roadkill, but I doubt if it will be a problem if you're using it for 'yotes.
