it is legal here in nc/[;)]
Legal in KY too. I don't hunt "corn piles", I wait until they pick four small fields and then hunt them. The beauty of small fields is they leave about 20% laying on the ground.

We can bait deer but not turkeys. If you want to gun hunt or bowhunt turkeys on the same property you deer hunt, a cornpile or feeder is not an option.

I think all baiting with the exception of food plots should be illegal. If you have to bait to kill a deer you don't know how to hunt. I would almost bet that most turkey hunting in the fall is illegal because so many people bait. I found a corn feeder the other day next to a picked corn field[?]. How smart is that when the field was full of corn. However it, made it illegal to hunt on the farm I was hunting for turkey. I challenge the baiter's to become hunter's[:0].

While I see your point, I can't agree with it! Most hunters wouldn't hunt a bait pile anyway( I have a serious problem having "common sense" dictated by any goveernment entity)...[:D].. That being said, there are other points to think about...really young hunters (a bait pile is at a known distance, they can watch it much better than an empty field..hoping for a deer to show up= more time hunting for them)..and the disabled hunters (or those who can't get around like they'd like to now)..Also the piles will be eaten quite often at night so the deer win as well. The answer IMHO is: if you don't want to hunt one; DON'T, but we don't need to legislate it which wouldn't affect most of us anyway, but would affect those groups mentioned above! Just my $.02

I think the pros of baiting would highly outweigh the cons(my opinion). I haven't hunted over corn for some years, but I have a few salt blocks scattered out through out the farm.

ok lets see a corn pile or lets say a food pile or feeder thats not natural to the woods i'll agree but a big or small growed up field or wood lot that is cleaned up and planted with some thing that a deer or turkey likes is that natural one day there is trees and cover and boom nice jucy clover deer come to corn piles to eat deers come to food plots to hum! oh yea eat now i'm just an ole country boy but that seems like food for a deer either way i don't hunt corn piles but i see nothing wrong with it but i do have food plots and mineral licks and plan on puting out a feeder the more protine and carbs that a deer can consume the healthyer it will be corn or soy bean or deer pellets pile or food plot

hillbilly I don't know what it has to do with baiting, but I use the following. I have used recurve bows, compound bows, ML (Dixie Squirrel Rifle,Huntsman .45 cal inline with open sights, #11 cap, blackpowder, an assortment of high power rifles, shotgun and I guess that about covers it (all seem to work). What do you use rocks? I know I am in the minority when it comes to baiting, but that's how I feel.

I know the guys next door to my farm put out a big corn pile about a week before gun season opens every year. I can see it from 400 yards away from the top of my ridge with the naked eye. Guess what? They kill nearly every buck that my trail cams get pics of during early bow season. Killed the huge 8 point I was after this year as well. I have several food plots out that are well grown and doing well. The deer like that corn pile though. Maybe next year I will have my own big pile of corn or maybe even a big trough with a covered roof so it won't get wet. Anyway, it's legal and they kill some nice deer that have fattened up in my plots all year so the corn pile must work. That is one reason that several people I know use corn piles. To help keep a few deer on their place and off the neighbors.

NCHunter41, you have added the last paragraph to my statement. I made no reference to grunt calls or the other items. I think you ment that statement to be yours not mine. I just think that when you bait by using cornpiles or feeders it makes shooting deer akin to shooting Bossie at the food trough.
Someone earlier said they never hunt over the cornpiles or feeders.
He must be the exception because most that I have come across have a stand in shooting distance.
I guess what I really have a problem with is becoming a law breaker everytime I turkey hunt because someone in feeding or baiting deer.
I don't think calls or deer lures are the same because they don't condition deer to come to that exact spot. Food plots generally are a stable food source for game and yes they attract and hold game to some extent. Most feeders and cornpiles are used primarily during the season and go away during the other tunes of year. I know some people feed year around but most that put out cornpiles do not.

Where I hunt there are some fruit trees scattered around a bit. The thing that gets me is one guy picked up and carried pears back to his stand. I said to the guy "hey Tom, why dont you just hunt closer to the tree". He looked at me like I was stupid. Lol Some guys cant take a joke. Well I am off to the farm, looking for a Doe. Muzzle Loader Time!

I have hunted corn piles before. It's no challenge. Once you find one, they always stay right there. Even til the next day. You can watch where people pour out corn, and i'd bet there's gonna be a pile there. Once I have hunted hard for a corn pile for a long time, and finally find one, I think to myself...Well, here's one more...and go about my business.
The above statement is from someone who is stuck at work instead of getting to go ML hunting this weekend. But I'll be back in the field starting Monday Morning. HOpe you all have fun and kill a big'un.
