Had to work this morning so we couldn't get out till this afternoon. We set and got in the field about 4:15, set up a blind up where I saw some does feeding Thursday night. As usual we had snack and drinks along with some great conversation. trying to catch up with what is going on in my 12 year old son's life. Every once in while trying to keep him focused with the task at hand.between fists of chips, swallows of gatoraide.and a occaisional loud fart. Finally when it got around 6:15 I told him it's deerthirty. He started to concentrate. I tried to keep up our cnversation, when he say's "quiet dad". What? he says "quiet" why?, " because a doe step out". Let me see, he says, "NO, she'll see you". I couldn't believe this. These were previous words on other hunts, but the shoe is on the other foot. It was always me telling him quiet. stay down. My son lifted his rifle and dropped the doe in her tracks at 55 yards. He high fived me then hugged me.:) This isn't his first deer, but he was just as excited. To top it off I let him drive the truck back to pick up his deer, he thought he was big stuff. To top the hunt off we were listeningto Kentucky when cleaning the deer over the truck speakers. On the way back home we heard UK win the game. He looked over and said "life don;t get much better than this". I thought you got that right.:D

Congratulations to you both!

That's Awesome, and a great story! I know how you feel, nothing like that experience with your children.

The youth hunts are ONE of the GREAT things the KDFWR has done for all of us and our future. Again this is my favorite time of the season. I can't "get enough" of the youth hunt stories and pictures!

Congrats on the deer--it's nice how hunting helps bond a father and child together
