Let a friend take his daughter on her first deer hunt this morning on our property. He called at 9:00am and said his daughter shot a small 6 point (her first deer) He said she did not make a great shot and shot the deer in the neck so they were going to give it some time. At about 10:30am he called back and said he was on a good trail with lots of blood.
I rode back on the hill and at about 12:00 pm I spot him and his daughter coming out of the woods, carrying a deer head.
Coyotes had found it and ate the thing that fast, The only thing that was really left was part of the neck and the legs! The deer was pulled and scattered all over!!
Between 9:00 and around 11:00 the coyotes totally destroyed this girls first deer!! Amazing!!

Incredible. I bet that was a little upsetting for the little girl. Probably a pretty nasty scene.

Well, the good news is that your little girl can practice her shooting skills from now on with the 'yotes. I bet she'd like that and them eating her deer would be good motivation. Y'all should try that next. Congrats to her on her kill anyway.

wow that will be a good memory gone bad forever..
sad story
just curious in that situation would you tele-check the buck and call it a season (bucks anyways)
or would you call it a act of nature and continue to buck hunt?

Man, thats amazing. There must be a ton of coyotes in that area. I would never have thought that they could consume a deer that fast. But, like NoTimeLimit said you could have the rack mounted with another cape.

First off ,let me say that is sad man I hate that for her. Second, I HATE yotes I kill every one that I see have for years and will continue too as long as they walk by my stands they are dead end of story.

I would hope that you would explain to her that this is a part of nature. Scavengers have a very important role in our woods to play. That the coyote's eating her deer was not personal although disappointing. All part of the hunt scenario. Emphasize the importance of shot placement etc. use this example in a positive way to teach her about the realities of the hunting experience. Some good, some bad. Above all congratulations on her first kill. Hunting lasts up to the shot, after that is braggin, eatin(sometimes) & work. Sounds like she had a great hunt. ;)

First congratulations on your friend's daughter's first deer!
I've never heard of 'yotes eating one that fast; especially during the daylight hours??? Sad way to end a hunt for her no doubt about that but as mentioned it 's part of nature....
