I just had a quick question, is hunter orange required for bowhunters this weekend, since it is the youth firearms weekend?

Not so. You are not required to wear orange on a WMA that is not open for firearms.

I guy I know got signed up this morning for bowhunting without his orange. I hate it for him, but I'm glad to see the officers out making their rounds. The more visible they are, the more all hunters will benefit.

I would assume you don't have to wear orange during the elk hunts in the non-restoration zone while bowhunting. Is this a correct assumption? Otherwise, we should all have been wearing orange LAST weekend during the lek hunts.

Yes, sorry for the confusion that IS what I meant in the AREAS where ELK and DEER hunting with guns are allowed (including ml)
I didn't realize I was so unclear, that was not my intentions, only to keep everyone legal (and SAFE) :)

Ace,
I wasn't suggesting that YOU were unclear but sometimes what is spelled out in the hunting guide leaves a little to be desired. I just really wanted to make sure that everybody is on the same page.
I don't understand why you don't have to wear orange on a WMA that doesn't allow rifle hunting but you do while on private land that nobody is rifle hunting on.

It's "cool" I wasn't as clear as I needed to be.
On the other part, I'd "guess" it's because on a WMA they're patrolled pretty good, keeping them safe, also even IF no one is rifle hunting on private land( could be there and NOT supposed to be ) they could be on adjoining properties and with the range of a rifle, or even a ML or slug gun.... it's ALWAYS better "safe than dead" :)

Certainly true, but goes both ways. Many of the WMA's but up against private land that may be gun hunted.

Because the WMA isn't legally open to gun hunting. The private land is, regardless of whether anyone is or not.

If I hunt a piece of private property and I am the only one LEGALLY on that land, then anybody else hunting becomes a trespasser and therefore illegal. I just don't get it.
I should state that I do wear orange and keep it on the entire time I hunt. I don't want to be shot, but it shouldn't be an issue because I hunt a piece of property 99% of the time, alone. There is no adjoining property to worry about.

So your willing to put your life on the line that no one else is hunting there? That's why the orange law is mandatory, and not optional for private land.
Quote from the guy that just shot you: "I had no idea anyone else was hunting here. My cousin's wife's friend said this was his grandma's property and that I could hunt here."

It works both ways. Making the law useless when you don't have to wear orange on a WMA just because they don't allow gun hunting. I'm not really arguing for/against it one way or the other...just equality so it all makes sense.
