Ive Heard A Bunch Of People On Hear Say They Pee In Their Mock Scrape. Im Wondering What Is The Reasoning Behind This. Wouldnt You Want To Use A Buck Urine Not Human Scent.

I was told that after so many hours the urine turns to ammonia and they cant tell the difference. I dont know if this is the case but years ago I had a friend who peed in a scrape that we happened up on and we went back the next day and it was tore up pretty good.

I think the logic is that deer can't determine or process the origin of the urine. I've pee'd in scrapes before, and the deer continued to use them.

Not sure if my pee contributed positively or negatively, but I think there's a fair amount of people who have researched it and found that human pee actually triggers increased deer activity at a scrape.

Just make sure that you don't touch anything around the scrape b/c the deer can definitely smell human odor passed through skin contact.

This is true to my knowledge as well, don't go peeing all over your farm limit it to the scrapes, lol.

Urine is urine. How many times have you peed outside only to have your dog come and remark where you peed? I would like to try female urine from someone during their monthly. They could not be on birth control. That would alter the hormones. See what kind of reaction you would get. Just think of the endless supply of "doe" in heat.:D

Last year in early black powder season i was in my climb standing and had to pee. I let go down a dead tree next to me-the pee ran down the dead tree. Less than 45 minutes later a small 6pointer licked my pee off the dead tree. Never again will I carry a jug to pee in or hold it. Let it go and just maybe......

Like was posted before, urine is urine.

I've been peeing in scrapes both real and mock for years and they do work. In fact I peeded in a real scrape at the farm this morning that a buck and I have kept going for 5 years now. It was dry this morning and had not been used for a while, it's under the all important over hanging branch right next to a major trail. I'll go back tomorrow and I'll bet good money he or another deer will have peeded in it tonight.

Over on TnDeer we've been doing it for years and the number of hunters that have success has grown.

I also make one mock scrape 20 yards from my stand in a shooting lane, all I want is for a buck to stop for a shot. I've watched all kinds of bucks and does checking it out and some ever peeing in it.

The difference between human SCENT and human URINE is what they are and where they come from. Human scent like all animal scents comes from glands all though our bodies. Urine is waste liquid. Watch a buck pee in a scrape if you ever get a chance, he will pee on himself. He pees on his legs so the urine runs down and over two glands in his lower legs and that urine carries the gland scents to the scrape.

Okay, I think I'll try it out on some of the scrapes near my buddies treestand, but I ain't peeing on my legs and letting it run down over my "glands" !!!!

Only problem I'll have is now that I'm older, I'll have to straddle the scrape in order to hit it. Not like in my younger days when I could clear a ford pinto. I remember once I peed 21' 3 1/8"s. Course I was in a treestand and peeing straight down.

It does work but I've never seen a buck actually tearing up the scrape--they have hit it some time before daylight most of the time

I have created my own scrape by urinating on a fence post. I always stopped on a crest of a hay field before getting to my stand. After a few days, the deer were using the spot.

Another time, I couldn't hold it long enough to get out of the woods near my stand. Heck, I held it so long, I was in pain and duck walking! I got a few yards away from my stand and let fly. The next morning, I watched a small buck work that spot over.

I heartily recommend a large, black, White Castle coffee about an hour before marking your scrape...;)

A. It's free
B. There's more of it
C. It works

'Nuff said.

I know that there are salts, calcium, protiens, minerals and other such things in urine. I really never thought of it but I think it would be like a salt lick to them. Maybe the odor of human urine isn't associated with humans, as it would be different than natural body odors that we give off. Just food for thought.

Not a scrape, but I wizzed out of the stand last night, twice. Within 30 minutes I had deer around me. A doe walked over and smelled where I wizzed and wasn't spooked until my Slick Trick went zipping thru her lungs. :D

Along those same lines, I knew two guys who actually hung used tampons near their stands.Bear in mind this was in the late eighties when urines and scents were first taking off. Anyhow, I guess it worked because they were nocking off hoss sized deer nearly every season. I just couldn't bring myself to try it for fear of someone seeing me with a big pink Kotex hanging beside my stand:D.................

I wouldn't want to be the guy caught raiding the women's restroom trashcan with a used tampon in my hand and then trying to convince them that it was for hunting purposes. For some reason, that conversation seems like it would end with a loud lady's scream. :o

The used tampon thing comes up every year it seems. I don't use the used tampons, just new unscented ones. Makes for a cheap scent wick. Don't laugh too hard, you all can keep buying scent wicks at $5 for 3.

Yep work good for "cover scent" wicks as well! Been doing it for years!

I told a guy and he swore it didn't work, so after some checking he was using the deodorant (scented) ones!!! :D :D (no wonder)

Why don't someone experiment this year and go all out and just squat in a scrape and crap also? I've recently picked up a "bug" and am blessed with a bowel movement about every half to two hours. Doc put me on medicine, just made it worse. (I do owe him money) Maybe I should try this approach.
Anyway, the pee thing works well as I took it one step further and I'll take some leftover doe in heat scent and empty what's left and then pee all over it. Then grind it in with my rubber boots and walk on down the trail. I'll make a mock one close to my stand and get the residue off my boots that way. Seems to work well.

Dang, I don't drink much in the morning and in the stand so I dont have to pee while I'm hunting. According to this thread it doesn't matter, just take a big water bottle and pee right out of the stand.
