I have a small area of approximately 0.25 acres that I want to plant in a food plot for this fall and winter. In the past I have rotated soybeans in the sumer and winter wheat in late fall. This yr. I didnt get the soybeans out so all I have now is a bunch of weeds. Also would like to try something differnt or maybe include something in with the winter wheat.I am most interested in attracting deer and turkey.Any suggestions?

First of all, you have to decide if you want to plant a seasonal plot(annual) or a permanant plot(perennial). Choices for a permanant plot would probably always come back to Ladino. Annual plots could be peas, oats, or lots of other choices, any of which can be mixed with wheat.

Get on it now as far as planting and try to time it with n the next 10 days to get it in before a rain.
Lime your field and go with alfalfa now. Wont need to mow and come winter it will be green and palatable(better than winter browse)
Come spring, harrow and smooth it out and try sorghum and a ladino/trefoil mix. Deer love the sweet stage of milo(around July) and the turkeys will be attracted to all the grasshoppe nymphs in the summer while with there broods. As well as coming to the fresh clover mix to strut.
Try planting strips along cover edges about 15 yards wide stay away of making the whole area on big field plot.
