I was squirrel hunting yesterday in Anderson Co. and heard a couple of coyotes about 50 yards off barking and every now and then they would yelp and howl. They did this off and on for about a half hour.

What where they doing? Where they barking at me? Can you call them in for a shot when they are doing that?

They will bark sometimes when they are spooked. Kind of like a deer blowing. Maybe they know you are there and don't know where you are. They will also bark agressivly at intruders (other yotes) -- but maybe???

What you heard is an alarm bark. Short choppy barks with short aggressive howls thrown in on occassion. They are impossible to call in while doing this. They knew who and what you were .

The down side for them is you now know where they spend some of their daylight hours and can sneak in sometime and set up to call them to a position morde in your favor. Jimmie
