im going hunting for bobcats for the first time this year and i asked that same question. as far as i can tell is one you want to take a friend and sit back to back cause remember this is a preditor and a cat so they move very quietly and they like to sneek up behind you. two as far as calls go you want to use a small prey call and give a distressed call. and you also want to take a turkey feather and tie a string from a tree and let the feather dangle in the wind. thos will get their attention. put it in a very brushy area the cats love to hide, dont expect to see one till it is right up on you, their sneeky little buggers..LOL;) their alot like a house cat in the way they behave, just bigger and completly wild. i didnt know their was many around the rouph river area, i used to live in meade co. i know there is alot around here in east ky, if you want your more than welcome to make the trip down here i have a few places scouted out already that i know they roam.....btw if you know where the turkeys are you are likely to find one around their, they are not social animals so if its a male it will be alone if its a female she may have kittens with her. just remember if you feel uncomftorble or scared when one comes near just make some noise and movement (just dont run away) and you will see how powerful and fast they are as they run away.:D
Just remember they have a season. Noon November 17-Jan. 21st I believe.

i think the start date for them this year is one week after rifle season opens. It has for sure changed from last year. and you can only shoot 3 with a gun i believe and then you can trap 2 more. i think thats what i read. check to be sure
Just checked, it is noon Nov 17th 2007 through Jan 31st 2008

My brother and I killed some last year but not necceserally "bobcat huntin", it was while we were coyote huntin they all came to a jackrabbit distress, and yes I know we dont have jacks but the predators dont know that, the sound carries better I think. We were using my foxpro caller and his jack in the box decoy. If you hear them every now and then you probably have more than you think. We had never heard them here, but I had seen some tracks and a cat 2 years ago while bowhunting. Stay vey close to thick cover, and watch vey carefully. When a cat thinks or senses something is not right they will lie or sit down and let their built in camouflage take over and it is very effective! And yes they will circle downwind of your call 50 to 100 yards. If at all possible stay in the woods, open enough to see but thick cover close bye. They generally dont like to pursue calls and even decoys in open fields, like evrything else there is aleays exceptions to the rule, but I have yet to kill one in an open field that was coming in to a call. Hope this helps

I agree with most of that. But I belive in bobcat hunting, scent is not as important as it is when hunting coyotes. Cats have much smaller nasal cavities than canines and nowhere near a canines ability to smell. They may circle the area the distress is coming from, but mainly to get a veiw of what is making the sounds. Cats hunt by sight and sound.

I don't know if it is true, and I would not do it myself.
The word on the street for a great predator call, a shock collar on a house cat, brings the predators running.
