Scope for Ruger 10/22

So I have a few questions about scopes for .22, Ruger 10/22;

1) Does it matter if you put a regular rifle scope on a .22 or does need to be made to just go on a .22? (Always heard that the recoil is different on .22 and will damage a scope if not made for rimfire.)

2) Does anyone have any suggestions on a good reliable scope for my Ruger? Im hoping to "trick it out" and make some mods to it and make it a serious plinker.

I have a rifle scope on my ruger 22 . I can shoot a dime out of a tree at 100 yards with it , never heard you could not put a rifle scope on it . But thats my two cents worth !!!:D

i have a 10/22 and i have a 3X9X40 tasco scope on mine and love the set up its deadly on squirrels

A regular riflescope will work but they are usually focused at 150 yards out of range for a 22LR,rimfire scopes are focused for 50 to 75 yards from what i understand...
