If you had the chance to be able too use a spotlight in Kentucky looking for deer would you do it !! I know I grew up in Michigan , And you are able to spot all months up to 11pm at night . You can not spot deer in the month of November though . Just curious on what you think on all of this , leave a small message after you vote !!!

We were able to spotlight here in Ky not that many years ago. It was a very popular practice all around Ky. It made it very tough to distinguish between poachers and legal spotlighters. It makes it tougher on poachers now, because people don't have to wonder if a spotlighter is legal or not.

I miss spotlighting, but anything to help poaching is well worth it in my opinion.

The spotlight Bill was passed I believe 5-6 years ago.
It was not passed due to poachers (big factor though) it was mostly because of A-holes shinning 1-Gazzilion candle power Q-Beams across folks houses, property,HOUSES, fields, HOUSES, BEDROOM WINDOWS,etc!

That is why in Michigan they have went to a 11pm stop time for it . It use to be you could spot all night . I think they realized they were not going to stop poaching by out lawing it so they compromised . I understand why they don't want here , But when I visit my family in Michigan that is one thing me and the kids love doing . Getting out there and seeing them just gets the kids all worked up !! It is fun times for me , but like usual people screw it up for their selves !!!

Well that sucks, I always thought it was for poaching. Just goes to show again how some idiots can ruin it for everybody. We always had certain fields out of sight of houses that we would shine. Never bothered anybody and made sure of it. Those were some good times.

It was allowed in Indiana as long as no type of weapon or ammo was in the vehicle. But get caught spot lighting and have a weapon, you just lost everything you owned except the clothes on your back.

Im glad they passed the BILL here in KNOX CO
to many POACHERS that ride the roads at night
killing deer and leave the little Bucks lay and take
the bigger BUCKS best thing they ever did but now
they BURN the roads up in the Mornings useing CROSSBOWS
and hunting out of there trucks/cars and killing Deer i saw
a man and a women drive down the road and take a buck
thats not deer hunting either.should have hit the deer with
there car instead its the same as a road kill either way.

It kept several of us out of a whole bunch of trouble during high school.

I can see why they stopped it but they stopped a fun activity for those of us that weren't poaching and had the sense to not disturb anyone's home.

I voted yes, assuming you are talking about spot lighting for scouting purposes. I would never support it with a gun nearby.

Lord no I would not support it with a gun . I think they should be thrown in jail for a year or more if they are caught having a gun in a car , with a spotlight !!! Pretty much if the gun is in the car they are out knowing they are going to violate . Like walking in a bank with a gun , and just doing nothing !!!

I voted no. Makes it easier to distinguish between a law breaker now. Now, if you have a spotlight out, even if you aren't poaching, there is no question as to whether you are breaking the law.

I voted no, but I used to enjoy spending several nights witha couple buddies on some back country roads for miles looking at some nice bucks. I loved it. Saw some reall monsters at times and it would get me all pumped for the season.

But like several have said it makes it easier now to catch poachers and thats worth the law to me.

Was up in Indiana the other night and went spot lighting with a buddy. We saw 25-30 bucks in the bean fields, sure was a lot of fun!!:)

I voted no. It just keeps things simpler I think. I used to love to spotlight when it was legal, but I am a law abiding citizen as well. There are a lot of people out there who aren't, and I think the no spotlighting law takes away some of their ammo.

The poll isn't about whether you think the law should be repealed or not. It just asks the question of whether you would or not if legal. ;)

Do they make a mount system to mount my spotlight on top of my scope?;)

You could probably mount it on there with a pair of handcuffs the CO will give you for packing during bow season:D

The current spotlighting law is a good law and necessary.

It may have originally passed, as GSP mentioned, by the added fact that spotlighting creates a problem intrusion into people's homes, but the preamble to the bill specifically mentioned deterring poaching as a goal.

IMO, people have no business shining their lights in other people's fields or homes at night.

I'd bet that the folks that would vote to change the spotlighting laws aren't landowners themselves since the landowners are more or less exempt from its provisions.

Helps keep everybody honest, IMHO. Concentrate on hunting, not out harassing deer at night. No body needs to be out blinding the animals with a high powered spotlight, just to see what they look like or where they are hanging out. Makes hunting alittle more challenging and interesting. We have all the high tech equipment available, how much more easier you want to make it.

I see both sides of the story the new no spotting law has had to cut back on poaching But i sure do miss those nights on the back roads.
