Well there are good deer in taylorsville state park but most of them have a very small body due to over population. If you do get picked then i suggest in buying an extra tag. There are deer all over down there. I seen a nice 10 a couple summers ago, but he couldnt have weighed more than 120 pounds. But it was just across from the camp ground. Good luck i hope you get picked.

There is deer sign everywhere down there. More sign than Ive ever seen anywhere. I most likely will put in for it also. I hunted there a couple of years and never saw a buck ...but did manage to kill a couple of does:p. Really funny story too. I'll tell you sometime. I saw the Biggest buck of my life standing right beside the road thirty yards past the check point before daylight. and never saw another buck. I just about jumped out of the truck. Had to be at least a 180 class deer. So they are there...just getting to see them . Anyone putting in with you? By the way there are some real idiots that were there also. One guy had his Grandson who was not disabled and wasnt allowed to hunt and they were both hunting and walked within 30 yrds of us and we motioned to them to let them know we were there and they just set there looking right at our backsides ...was very frustrating. Good Luck I hope you get drawn. Dace

Has anyone hunted the January quota hunt they have at Taylorsville Lake. If so would like any info you have and are willing to share. Like to know if the bucks are still packing bone then or if they are starting to drop. Thanks in advance for any info you can give

Bucks will most likely still have antlers, but sightings will be rare due to pressure. Still a good chance for does. Tons of deer, tons of pressure. Good luck.

I took the boat out last weekend to Taylorsville. I saw a lot of doe, and only 2 bucks, neither as big as I would have liked, but you can definetly take all the doe that you want. Word of advise, be very careful around the lake edges. The mud is up to my head and I am 6'3".

went to tvill this morning, and yet again..................I ran into 2 hunters in the woods walking to my/their/our spot. That place is REDICULOUSLY OVER RAN with HUNTERS. Don't even think about putting in at settlers trace, or Possum ridge on the weekend in hopes being alone.
Both of these guys were "dropped off." So there was no boat, and no way of me knowing they were there. (I think something should be placed on the shore to let people know you are there if you're hunting a crowded place like Tville.)
Quota hunt might be fun though.

There is plenty of room if you like walking. The WMA is like 1500 acreas. Its a PNA but that's life without your own land.

What does everyone think about Taylorsville #3, think their will still be activity and some quality deer around?
I've done the Jan Tville hunt a time or two. There is a ton of hunting pressure and most of the WMA is inaccessible by land. Plenty of deer, and they are typically still packing bone....but I shot a 6 point two years ago and he dropped one side running after he was hit. I'll say this much....be careful...I saw more orange than I did deer.

I hunted T'ville on last years early quota hunt. In the woods, I didn't see another hunter except my bud I went in with. I ended up killing a decent buck. Ya just gotta know where to go I reckon.

Yes, the youth weekend is is this coming weekend (13-14). You can still hunt T-Ville with your bow, but just like any place else you must wear hunter orange.

I got drawn for the Jan hunt. I hunted the Dec hunt last year and saw lot of deer but most of them were does. I hunted the Nov. hunt 4 years ago and saw a lot more bucks. This will be the first I have hunted the Jan hunt.

Anyone psyched about the cooler weather and this weekend? Rut is really getting going in Bullitt county and deer were starting to chase on the east side of the lake last weekend.
Both of these guys were "dropped off." So there was no boat, and no way of me knowing they were there. (I think something should be placed on the shore to let people know you are there if you're hunting a crowded place like Tville.)
One thing that me and my dad would do when hunting back home in a highly hunted area is habng a map like you can get off the WMA website with a area circled and a note sayin that you are in that area. But we would do that in areas where you park at a gate not sure what you could do about a lake where you can go in almost anywhere though.

One large doe or they said it was big for the lake area. It weighed close to 100 lbs and was 4 1/2 + years old according to those at the check station. I saw several 40 - 50 lb small does being checked in. One 6 or 7 pointer close to 120 and it had a very small symetrical rack that sure didn't look like a young deer. All the deer I saw were predominately smaller than those I'm used to seeing further west in Grayson and Ohio counties.
I believe someone said about 30 deer checked in as of mid day sunday total.

I was thinking about Bow hunting there this weekend. I wonder how crowded it will be since gun season opens this weekend?

The WMA is not crowded when it's NOT gun season. I would expect that anyone who has a non-public hunting area would be there with rifle in hand this weekend. Don't expect much company on the WMA during the state-wide gun season. Even though Taylorsville isn't open to gun hunting, you may want to call Bill Mitchell (WMA Manager) and ask if hunter orange is required, especially since adjacent (private) properties will be having rifle season this weekend.

yes you have to where orange every where in the state during any deer gun season.
