This may be a silly question but can having "Buck Fever" make you actually sick? This past Sunday I was hunting a soybean field. Got in the stand at 4:30 and had two yearling bed not ten yards from my stand at 5:00. They finally got up at 7 and started eating. Then a large spike (10" or more) came busting through behind me and walked right under my stand and into bean field. Then I look across the bean field and see two tasty looking does but too far for shot. At about 7:30 a fork horned comes strolling by along with another spike behind him. So now there are 6 deer around me and I am hearing sticks break and comotion going on all around. To say the least I am tense!

The the bachelor group comes from behind me. I'd say atleast 6 bucks and 4 does. And I can see big daddy in the horizon 75 yards away. He lets the other check out the scenary before he makes his way down a gully behind me and he disappears behind some thick stuff. I draw...1-2-3 minutes pass I finally let down. My heart is pumping, this guy is a 10 pt that may score in the 150's! Anyway I don't get a shot, I draw twice on him, but he doesnt present me with a good shot. I was shaking, adrenaline pumping, and heart racing.

After getting down out of tree and driving back to the house I started to get severly sick. As soon as I pulled in the drive, my supper came right up and I could barely walk. The puking then lead to pain all over. Did my body go through too much adrenaline? Is that possible? I tell you I have never been so tense while hunting the entire time, there were no dry periods during this hunt! But dang, buck fever either made me sicker than a dog (didn't even make it to work or class the next day), or I just got a hold of a bad bug.

I would say your adrenaline got the best of you !! Your nerves likely got the best of you , that being said good luck trying to get him again . Maybe go out with some water next time , and just sip and do no more !!!!:D

I forgot the gatorade in the truck, along with my screw in holders for my bow and gear. It is a pain trying to hold on to all that stuff and get situated! Everyone of my pockets were jammed packed from stuff out of my fanny pack. And everything goes in order to

attach climber to tree
attach rope to bow
attach harness
if new spot get the gerber saw out and get ready to saw while climbing!
move up 30' or so
stabilize stand
adjust seat pad to tree (strap)
adjust harness
make sure shooting lanes are clear
make sure enough cover
get everything I need out of fanny pack (gloves, face mask, calls, binocs, scent away) and jam pockets full
attach fanny pack to stand (If your smart you'll bring your screw in holders)
get thermacell out and burning, attach to stand
pull bow up
cool down - put long sleeve shirt on
situate calls in certain pockets
knock an arrow
put on gloves
put on release
put on face mask
spray self down with scent away
put uneeded items back in fanny pack (rope, scent away, saw)
take quiver off and attach to fanny pack that is attached to stand (man those screw in holders would have really helped!)

Doing all this in a 2x3' space, 30' up in the air, balancing a bow on the front...dang there's alot of work into it! But I love it!

The 24 hour stomach bug that hits just about as you describe is going around right now as well.

The adrenalin shouldn't have put you down the next day too.

I recently had the stomach bug myself totally different from buck fever where you get weak and shake like you were freezing to death. Now had you shot at and hit this buck and couldn't find it you would be sick enough to throw up

ever get that sickish feeling when:
you have to give a speech in front of a crowd
before a doctors appointment
before a court day

thats prolly the same as buck fever you get so geared up and excited that it can create an unexpected rash of the ickys...

keep in mind you may learn to hold your cookies longer the next time BUT if you get to the point where the excitment goes away after an event like you witnessed ..your nearing nursing home age..HAHA

I know last year when I hunted every day, almost all day of the first week of the gun season, by the time the week was over I was sick, exhausted and pretty sick of looking at deer. I must have seen hundreds of deer but not the one I was wanting to shoot. I seen a monster and couldnt get it out of my head. If he had stayed still for just a second I would have had him.

Sounds like a bug. But, buckfever is part of the excitement of deer hunting. When i lose that, i will really be sick!

What you may have had was v-bug already wanting to flare up but with all the excitement of what we all call BUCKFEVER, it put the v-bug in overdrive which was caused the pucking. By the way we are talking about buckfever hunting wise right not the REAL "BUCKFEVER". Just kidding buck you said you were thick skinned just scrathing a little lol!!!:D:D

I Know Ive Got So Torn Up Before That I Felt Like I Was Going To Get Sick, But That Is What Makes It So Fun , Not Getting Sick But It Is Addictive. We Love To Hunt Those Whitetails. When You Dont Get Nervous Is When You Need To Stop Hunting, It Is Not Fun For You No More.

I had an obvious Booner run a doe across a firebreak in Ft Campbell one day. It ran the doe into a thicket. This was at 11:00 AM and I had been there all day. I had a small opening in the thicket where I could see the lower part of their bodies. I watched the hole, and when the 2nd deer hit the hole I shot. I went down and found a 7 point buck that he must have jumped when they hit the thicket. I got sick as soon as I saw it. I held it down, but it wanted up badly.

Got a buddy that throws up about half the time after being in a duel with a wise old gobbler and winning. It makes him so nervous for one to hang up under a hill for a while then slip in. I hunted one for 2 weeks and then missed him at 17 yds. I was phisically and mentally ill for a week. It was like I was in a depression. YES, I BELIEVE YOU CAN GET SICK FROM BUCK FEVER. If you love and want something so much that it hurts, why couldn,t it make you ill when an opportunity is blown? I would say you are just passionate about what you do.
