Ok, here's what I want to do. I have a Johnny Stewart cassette caller, is there any way that I can take an MP3 player, and the horn speaker from the J.S. caller, and make a remote type caller? I want to get the speaker a little ways away from me, but the chord on it is only about 25 feet long. That's my goal, to get the speaker out there a little so the coyote isn't focusing it's attention right on me. Also, it's a little noisy if you change tapes.

I don't know about a remote caller but...
you can download the stuff from varmintal.com and add some silence between calls to create a "sequence". I've clipped my iPod to the speaker and let it play while I got 50 yards away. It works pretty well for what it is.
Good Luck

I guess I should add that I have no idea what I would need to go from the MP3 player to the speaker. I know you need some kind of amp for the speaker, but I have no idea what or where to get the stuff.

Check out the Cass Creek Big Horn speaker. Uncle Lee's has it on their website. It sounds pretty good with an iPod. I think it's about $40.
edited to add: You would just use the plug from the speaker to plug into the MP3 player where you would plug in headphones.

I thought it was illegal to use any electronic device for calling in deer?

Could be, but deer haven't been mentioned here.

Yep, it is. This is the varmint hunting section, though.

Just to clarify, it is for coyotes.

You would have to have an amplifier between your MP3 and the speaker. It's $15 at Radio Shak. If you use the Cass Creek speaker, the amp is built into the speaker. I bought a 100' and a 50' roll of speaker wire and put ends on them to where I could use them like extension cords. 150' out there is pretty good ways to get the speaker away from you. I like that better than leaving the whole thing out there because you still have control over what's playing.

I'm wanting to do basically the same thing as you weedwalker, but get rid of the wires. If you can do that, it would still allow you to keep the MP3 player in your hand, and have the speaker away from you. Basically what I'm wanting to do is make a home made Foxpro caller. :D

I don't know how to make it remote to get away from using the wire. I'll bring mine on Saturday and show you what I have if you can make it.
I have heard of people using something like a Mr. Microphone that uses FM radio to the speaker, but haven't tried making one.

Sounds good weedwalker. I have been looking at some wireless speakers on the internet, just haven't found the right thing yet, maybe I'll run up on something pretty quick. I'm still looking for suggestions everybody.

Would this work as easy as I think it would, or am I missing something?

That seems to be what you are looking for right there. It even mentions using an MP3 player.
There has to be some transmitter to go along with it, though. You might want to find out what that looks like and how it is powered. It may be as big as a suitcase and need 220V. :D

looks like it might work. I wonder how big it is and what kind of sound output it has? I'll let you buy the 1st one so I can check it out.:D
