Here is the story of my Beagle's first real blood trailing experience. Thanks for reading ZTT.

Good story.

Sounds like she didn't go very far at all. Femoral artery hit?

Not an ideal shot but if it accidentally happens, they generally leave a blood trail that looks like it was made with a bucket.

Sounds like the pup is going to make a good one.

Glad you were able to recover your deer, I'm sure there are some that are lost due to lost blood trails and bad hits. Good thing you had the beagle. Congrats on your harvest

The first deer I ever shot with bow was at LBL. I was 16, and as nervous as I had ever been. I was shaking so bad I hit her in the hind quarters! She ran all the way around my tree, and back out in front of me where she laid down. I thought I would never see her again when she got up, but to my surprise, when she did get up, there was a pool of blood about 6 feet across. I had hit the main artery in her back legs, and she died shortly after she got up and wandered into the woods. It wasn't a good shot by any means, but it did put her down;)
