Had a man come to me last week saying he had a van that he was wanting to scrap. Told me he would give halfs if I hauled it with my truck and gooseneck trailer. We drove it on the trailer:) and I chained it down. Took it to the scrap yard. I kept the wheels and tires and the new battery. (He said I could have them.) It weighed 4,660 lbs. brought $326.00. Man easiest $163.00 I have made in along time. I'd do that deal any day of the week. I may have burnt 10 dollars in gas. Still a great profit.

Some moron locally tried to steal all the copper and aluminum out of an air conditioner central unit at a local housing project.

Bad enough we have to pay taxes to support the white trash who won't work but now we have to fix the a/c unit that he tried to salvage!

some of the builders up here are actually having to pay someone to patrol the new houses at night to keep the a/c units from being wrecked by copper thieves:mad:

It is a shame. A factory over near where my wife works had all the coils stolen from there since they are shutdown. that reminds me, a buddy told me he has two old central units and some other junk I could have. said he would load it with a frontend loader if I would just drive over. he also said he has a 100 gallon old steel fuel tank that would make a great smoker.:D

Yeah, it's terrible and only getting worse, we have had quite a few deaths from people trying to steal the copper from LIVE electric lines!!!

You will make alot more money if you take apart the central ait units. Al you have to do is cut the ciols out of it and way it in seperate. They are all alum.- copper. About $0.60 a pound.

Yeah scrap is up, i had 2 brand new sets of tires and wheels of GM trucks, they stold them to sell the wheels, they stold a huge pile of radiators, and i didn't notice until the other day that they got away with a couple exhaust systems, batteries, as well as a few aluminum engine cradles......

guy might have wanted you to haul it so he wouldn't get caught! lol

why else would someone want to sell a "new" battery as scrap?

The present high prices for scrap steel are making the junker out in the pasture very valuable.

I suspect that a lot of yards, hollows, pastures and other places that have been littered for years will be cleaned up. When the junker is worth $300, it's going to go.

This is a very good side-effect of the global economy. Let the chinese start cleaning up our yards and paying for the privelige of doing so.

Common here in N Ga. as well...In my opinion the scrappers are part of the problem...when some crank monster shows up with a ton of copper that obviously came from new construction he should report it. I don't know about where you are but here the scrappers are of the same feather as the monsters stealing it. Funny how a little profit can make you ignorant as to where some of this "SCRAP" comes from. It also maes Ya wonder what enforcement is doing when there is only 2 scrap yards aroud here and they can't figure out where all the copper is going:confused:

a buddy of mine is an electrical contractor,,he told me the other day that people are going in new construction homes and tearing out the wiring,,,,,I went to Clay City 2 months ago to lay carpet in a home that was supposed to have heat and elec. I turned on all the breakers and got nothing, I checked outside and the meter was gone.Come to find out, thieves had pulled the meter, got in the attic, and "jerked" all the wiring from the house.I went back 2 weeks ago with a generator and space heater, they had come back and jerked all the copper gas lines out!:(
