I hunt a farm in Butler co that always has tons of young bucks but you never see them the next year. There are some yahoos living around the area and I wonder if the kill alot of the bucks every year after we have gone. Do you believe there are alot of hunters that shoot more than 1 buck a year?

I'm sure there are hunters that kill more than one buck.
As far as your land goes, are you providing good food for them year round? If not those bucks are probably leaving your area in search of better land. Another good idea is set aside an area on your land where you NEVER go. This will act like a refuge for the deer where they can feel safe and are never disturbed. Just some thoughts

We see alot of deer but it seems that once they get mature they leave or get shot late in the season when no one is at the farm.

How much land is it?

420 acres with about 180 in woods and cedar thickets. It is an awesome funnel area. The woods run through the middle of pasture land connecting two huge wood lots of the neighbors.

Maybe that's it. It may not be able to support a large number of bucks with it being a funnel. During the rut I would think you would see a lot of bucks cruising through looking for a "hot" doe.

I know for a fact there is on a couple of the farms I hunt. I have reported it to the hot line. They harvest one buck and then later in the season they shoot another because it was nicer than the other. SAD! If I ever have my own land it will never be this way!

Do you see any mature bucks at all?
Do you run trail cams?
How many people hunt the land with you?
How's the food situation on the land?
A lot of young bucks will re-establish their home range once they get their butt kicked around during the rut. There may be some big bucks that you aren't seeing.

Surely with that much land you have one shooter hiding out somewhere, he may be nocturnal for unknown reasons right now. Yes I'm sure there are several hunters out there that have and will take more than one buck per year and it makes me sick to hear these bragging xxxxxxxx

I'm sure there is one or two big bucks that stuck around they could very well be nocturnal or maybe they are passing through when you get out. The other questions do people shoot more than one I know they do and others do to. I know two guys a county away from where I live that goes spot lighting every fall to shoot deer at a great distance just to see if they can hit it, if they o.k. if they don't o.k. they just move on to the next feild and try again, now that really ticks me off:mad:

I Am So Tired Of Hearing Of People Killing Over The Limit Whether It Be Ducks,or Turkeys Or Deer.why Can't People Just Obey The Limits. All You Do Is Hurt Your Next Hunt.there Are Only So Many Animals.quality Days Afield Is What It Is All About.would'nt It Be Great To Go Kill A Nice Deer Or Turkey And Not Have To Worry About The Pressure Of If Decide Not To Take This Animal Then Maybe Tomorrow Or The Next Day.

Big bucks get big by being smart.I've hunted some in Butler Co. There are some get deer taken there every year.I would say several of those small bucks you have saw made it thru the year ok .Sounds like a good farm to hold a few big bucks, especiallly during the rut. With hard hunting and some good old luck hopefully you will put a tag on one of those big Bucks..Good luck!!!!

I live in Harlan County in the southeast tip of the state. There are a lot of outlaws here and in the surrounding counties. I know people who shoot 2-3 bucks every year. We didn't have a steady gamewarden until just last year. Seems like everyone are more worried about our ELk and Black Bears and could care less about people poaching deer. A lot of people also take their kids youth hunting and shoot bucks for their kids. I know this for a fact. Even if you call in on them, the warden has to catch them in the act to do anything about it. I've called the report a poacher line several times. Every gun season I hear several shots at night on strip jobs close to me house. Its very disheartening when people shoot them out of truck windows and off 4-wheelers and I'm walking 2 miles up a mountain to hunt. Something needs to be done.

Yes and does will run off their male offspring also.
Its one of natures ways to prevent inbreeding.
Young bucks usually disperse around the rut to establish their own breeding areas.
If you take out a doe with a button buck, he will usually stay in the area his entire life.

I've hunted extensively in Carter, Greenup, Lewis, Lawrence, Pendelton, Owen, Rockcastle, Boone, Carroll, Bracken....everywhere I've hunted over the years this goes on. Problem is, more folks than not just look the other way cause its either easier or its just a way of life.
Character is following the rules even when you hear the guns going off every evening at sundown during bow season.
