I am interested in getting a dog for training for coyote hunting. Anybody know where I can get info on how to train a dog for it? What breeds are best, I was thinking some kind of Kurr would be good. Anybody out there already using a dog?

Mountain Curs are used the most, but a lot of medium sized dogs that won't run too far and come back to you will work. I'm not using one yet but checking into it also.

Let me know if you find any pups for sale. We might be able to get one a piece and do some training together.

My uncle got a blue tick in a trade last year that ended up having pups from a Mountain Cur....bet that wouldve been a great Coyote Dog.

Might try a Cur cousin a Rhodesian Ridgeback as well...very versitale dogs that are used to hunt everything from lions in africa to boar in Texas. For what its worth, I have never hunted coyotes with a dog(s) so this is just my opinion.

Well, the dog interacts with the coyote and takes it's attention off of you. Once the coyote sees the dog, the dog runs back to you, and coyote follows him. At least that's how it is supposed to work.

There is an article in the Predator Extreme magazine I just purchased at Wal Mart about begining training coyote dogs. I have yet to read it but may help you some.
