I was at Wal Mart today purchasing a hunting license and the guy at the counter told me that under Kentucky law coyote hunting is not allowed during deer rifle season. I told him I thought he was wrong, but he insisted that this is true and know's of someone that was issued tickets by KDFW for doing so. He told me it is listed in the Kentucky guide for hunting and trapping, but when I handed him a copy of such guide he could not find this in print. Only restriction he found that I already knew about was no night hunting. But as I walked away he was still very sure of himself. Can someone tell me who is correct about this. Thanks in advance

Coyote season never closes. You just have to wear blaze orange when a deer or elk gun season is open in the zone you're hunting in.

A few years ago, only legal deer hunters could take coyotes during gun season. That has all been changed. There is no closed season on them now.

I believe that you need to have deer tags along with your hunting license to hunt coyotes during deer season. I could be wrong, but that is the way I understand it. ;)

Buy your license from the Wal-Mart employee, But study the guide on your own. Don't ask them any questions, they don't know the hunting guide front and back, they are just there to sell the license. I have been in the sporting goods section, when people start quizing the kid behind the counter, it's terrible. It's not their responsibility to study it, it's the hunters responsibility to know.
ALL hunters are required to abide by the hunter orange clothing law when it applies. Be sure you are aware of ALL deer or elk firearms hunting season dates. During periods when multiple hunting seasons are open at the same time, hunters must abide by the equipment restrictions in effect for the type of hunting they engage in.
Here is what I found from the web site. I could not find where it states that you must have a deer tag to hunt coyotes during deer season. It was a rule at one time but since they started to allow small game hunting during deer season it appears that they might have changed it.

All you have to have is hunting license, no tags of any kind required.

Yeah, I seem to kill more coyotes during deer season than I even see deer.
