How many of you carry a sidearm while hunting coyotes? What kind?
Depending on where I go, I sometimes take my Taurus 4" .357 mag.

No sidearm for me. If I run out of rifle ammo and the groundhogs are still charging, I'll fix bayonets and give em the cold steel. :D

I have been thinking about doing this after a recent close encounter while coyote hunting. I just sat down and began to call when 1 came out of the woods approx 15 foot to my right. My scope was set on 6x power so it was no big deal, but I thought it would be great to actually use a pistol for some hunting action.

That's the way I'm thinking about it too. Not that I need a pistol for protection, but I would like to take a coyote with it.

Rarely do i go without a crossdraw .357. For close encounters.

I carry the tried & true M1911-A1 .45acp R.I.A. :D
A 230gr chunck of lead moving at about 900fps will stop pretty much what ever is in it's way !;) Sometimes I pack lite & carry my GLOCK 19 (9mm).
