I hunt south eastern KY on some family property so I am not able to get there too often. Just wondering how the acorn crop is this year? Anyone from Whitley or surrounding area?

Tina Brunjes of KDFWR had an article in the latest Kentucky Afield. She called the statewide mast crop "spotty", more or less a relatively off year.
It's very spotty in Jefferson and Shelby counties.

I found three red oaks right off the bat just loaded with acorns. Found one small white oak that had a few rather small acorns mostly covered by the hull.
All of the other white oaks that I checked are bare.

Found some oaks that had produced some average size nuts, some were very small. Both appeared to be in good condition for the deer. The white oaks looked to be the one hurting. Most of the ones that have fell were soft and undeveloped inside.
