I skin and process my deer. In the early season you know that Flies and bugs can be a pain. I have heard some people say to pour black pepper on the deer and that will keep them away. Does anyone have any tips to keep them away?
Thanks

I only hunt in the afternoons when its real hot so most of the deer I take in the early season our taken near dark and the flies are not a problem. Plus its a little cooler at night so it gives you a little extra time to get them skinned out and into the fridge.

Don't know of any secrets that overcome "hot". I would just suggest skinnin' 'em as fast as possible. They get to the grill quicker that way, anyhow.

my father - in - law had some bags to slip over the deer a couple of years ago. He is a fan of letting a deer hang over night. So I helped him skin and clean up anything he missed during the field dressing. Then we slipped the bag over it to help keep the flies off (according to him). I went back the next day and quartered it out for him.
Personally I like to do it all in the same day.
I think the bags came from walley world

ive hunted in texas alot and its hot there all the way through the middle of gun season.we always field dressed the deer put several bags of ice (leave in bag)inside of the deers cavity.and then put it in one of those cloth deer canvasas.after that put the pepper on the canvas .but you still ned to keep it as cool as possible.the ice really helps
