Greetings, I'm mainly a lurker (great info by the way), but I read the forums pretty regularly (now that hunting season is getting into full swing again :) )...

I have a question about the free youth weekend at the end of december...Does a deer taken that weekend need to be tagged?

IE: If I get my son (who just got his Orange Card today) a youth deer tag and he gets one during modern gun season, do I have to get him a bonus tag for the weekend at the end of december or is that a "free" deer?

The reason I ask is because during that weekend, you don't have to be licensed to hunt...how do you tag a deer without a license?

Any help would be great...

BTW, anybody else sign up for the LBL youth quota hunt? If i give a zone, can somebody give me some info?

All deer must be tagged reguardless when taken. I would check with your co about whether or not it would be a bonus tag if he has already harvested an animal. Just because it's a free weekend doesn't mean you can shoot till you run out of bullets, just like the fishing days that are exempt you still must abide by all game laws and creel limits,

Deer don't have to be tagged under normal conditions, but do have to be Telecheked. If you leave it with someone else, it has to be tagged. You would need to make your own tags. The regs are in the guide on whats required.

The Youth doesn't have to have tags for the youth free weekend in December, but you still need to call in any harvested deer to the telecheck system.

telecheck only on the free youth weekend but check the hunting guide or ask a CO about it.
