my dad used to tell me stories of when him and his buddies would get in the back of a pick-up truck after dark, pop a coyote tape in teh tape player, blast teh speakers real loud and sit... with a spot light in their hands. after hearing animals run thru the woods they would spot lite the coyotes and bust em. somtimes missing only to have the yotes come all the way to the truck trying to bite the tires. granted this was 30 years ago. and laws then were a lot more liberal than they are now days, or well not as well inforced.

ive always wanted to game hunt with these calls. legally that is.

my question is what is the best game call to start with for the money. for beginners. and that seem to get the job done without spending 400 bucks.

im interested in hunting, crows, yotes, and other varments (fox, bobcats, or anything) not neccesarily to kill the animals but to take pictures of them especially the bob cats and foxes.

help guys..

DeerMD, I bought a used Burnham Brother caller for 100.00 just to get started. It basically consists of a speaker, amp and battery. You must supply the MP3 or CD player. The only issues that I have with this call is that it is not a remote operation device. I can only get away from the speaker about 50 ft which means that the coyote is focused on your direct location as he is coming in. The call has worked great and I have had a lot of success with it (keep in mind that a lot of song dogs have stopped singing due to hunters using hand calls) so I have not upgraded. Hope this helps and good luck.

If you already have an MP3 player, you can get a 15 watt cone speaker for $10-$12, and an amplifier/booster for $15 at Radio Shack. I use a 50 watt powerhorn speaker. You can download free distress sounds from varmintal.com or westernrivers.com to load into your MP3. Or you can get a $10 rabbit distress call and start calling. Buy a coyote hunting video and watch it to get an idea of how you should be calling. Brent Saxton's "Calling In The East" or any Randy Anderson video.
