How many carry a pistol with them while bow hunting? I have never been hunting this time of the year and the property we have is prime ground for rattlers. I know you are not suppposed to have a firearm with you while bow hunting but just wondered if that is really enforced if you only had snake shot loaded? Any advice dealing with walking upon a snake while on the way to the stand is appreciated. I am looking for my first deer with a bow this year and snakes or not I am going to be in that stand come Saturday morning. Good luck to all.

I Carry Mine With Snake Shot. I Also Have My Concealed Carry Though So I Dont Know If That Makes A Difference. I Carry It Just Because We Run Into Poachers And People That Arent Suppose To Be On My Property.

Prime ground for rattlers means that IF you search real hard, you might see one or two a year. The chance that you will be harmed by a snake walking to your stand is rare at best.

Thank you for stating a reasonable reality. I hunt a property that is supposed to be infested with rattlers, but I "might" find one year. People let their fear and mind really play tricks on them.

I might be wrong, but I doen't think that the concealed weapon permit covers you while you are bow hunting.

Not only do I bowhunt in Kentucky, but have been fortunate to bowhunt in Colorado and Wyoming. I never carry any firearm while bowhunting, never really felt the need. Just pay attention and you will be fine.

i'm not sure that it's legal, and i dont know that it's needed.the area where i hunt if you go looking you could easily get a dozen or so copperheads a day,and i only kill one or two a year squirrel hunting,i just dont look for them.the one you dont see is the one that will get you anyway.

I absolutely do not carry a fire arm while bow hunting. I am also fairly certain that if you get stopped while hunting and you have a pistol on you odds are that your going to get a ticket.

Note: A conceal/carry permit does NOT allow you to carry a modern firearm while deer hunting during archery-only, crossbow-only or muzzle-loading seasons.

I've never really felt the need to carry while bowhunting. This is not to say I would'nt have one in my truck or if I'm at our cabin.....just not in the woods while bowhunting. As far as snakes.... we have killed two rattlers in 22 years on our place. Ran over one with a bush-hog and the other was unintenionaly / unknowingly ran over at our gate entering our place. Its always on my mind walking to stands in warm weather and especially turkey hunting but a good pair of snake boots has been more of a piece of mind than a pistol. More than likely ....you wouldnt even know the snake was there until he striked... could be a little late to draw.
