How many good bucks do yall think will be taken opening weekend? My father seems to think big deer are not taken on opening weekend cause its to hot. i think he is coming up with excuses not to sit in the stand. and I'm looking for any reason not to bake in the stand this weekend.

There are always several big deer killed the first weekend. If you don't kill em on the opener they'll be there in Oct, just not as predictable!

You're Dads right. No big bucks will be shot in early September. If I were you, I'd just stay at home in the AC.
I killed a 160" net deer on Sept 4th last year. You know where Ill be at opening day.
Last time I checked, them bigguns dont go to the a/c when it gets hot. You cant kill a deer sitten on the couch.:D Get out when you can. Tomarow may never come.
P.S. Get a termocell. God bless the person that invented it.:D

here is a picture of the 159 3/8" gross deer that I "didnt" get on opening weekend 2001. He was with two other Pope and Young Class bucks. You sure wont kill one if you arent out there in the woods! Or in this case at the edge of a field with next to a white oak that was raining acorns!!!

I dove hunt mainly on opening day because that is what my kid wants to do. My cousin who hunts with me has killed three really nice bucks from the same stand, three years in a row on opening day. I really need to switch and hit dove the second weekend, but my son won't give in. I did the next best thing, I cut his tree down and lite it on fire, which now pushes the deer over the ridge to my stand. Wishful thinking if he wasn't a relative. Hopefully he won't notice all the human hair on the ground or the toilet paper.

I'm sure there will be some dandys killed this weekend if the temps drop like they are supposed to. And I don't mind ending my buck tag for the season at all if the buck I'm looking for walks under my stand opening morning.
