Will turkeys eat meat?My son shot a doe opening day and we couldn't find her.The next day we heard turkeys all day behind this thicket on the other side of our stand.Several days later I walked by this area and found the deer. Both ears were gone and all the hair on the side facing up was gone.Hair was scattered everywhere. You could see droppings and scratchings all around the deer.Possums or coyotes or both had gotten to the hams but it looked like something had been picking all around that area too.Buzzards hadn't got to it.The eyes were intact and the deer was up under a dogwood, hedgeapple thicket.

Maybe that explains why I always see turkeys when I'm hunting deer...they ate all the deer up. LOL

I have heard they a turkey will peck at one but I have never personally seen that or read anything to verify it. I had a buddy they said he saw a turkey peck at the eye of a dead deer several years back.
They will eat insects but that doesn't mean they will eat on a dead deer.

I've seen turkeys with small frogs in their craw.
I have noticed that if a deer is in a field and a turkey comes out, the deer will leave the field. Hmmm, very interesting.

I shot my second bird this spring aobut 5 yards from 3 deer. The tom was comming down the hill full strutt and 3 deer popped up out of nowhere. I was afaird my hunt was over. He kept on struttin and ever minute or 2 he would turn and gobble at the deer. He came on in and I shot him with the deer still within 10 yards of him.
