Ok so I have had my Mathews bow for about 5 years now and I have never changed the string. I have only changed the cable once. So anyway I bring it to the bow shop thinking it needs to be change and the guy at the shop said it was fine. So is that accurte or should I get a new one? The string is in perfect shape I just was wondering if it is still shooting with the same as it was five years ago. Dont the Zebra strings stretch alot? Anyway so there it is he said all was good.

Also is there any benifit to using the smaller fletching compared to the normal sized ones? It seems everyone is going to a smaller fletching now a days.

A lot of string wear just depends on how often you shoot. String stretch is a pain but accordingly ...in 5 years its probably settled in and should'nt be a problem. I'd just check my a/t/a length... brace height and see if they were in spec. If the string / cables has been waxed regularly...no fraying , nicked or broken strands.... your probably OK. If any doubt... I would have string & cables changed. 5 years... its probably due .

I too shoot a 5 year old Mathews but I ended up changing string & cables after two seasons. I was shooting a lot ... almost daily back then and the Zebra string never seemed to stop stretching. I went to Zebras ...Tiger Twist string made out of different material and never had another problem.

I've just recently started shooting again and have had zero stretch out of this string after initially setteling in. This bow has seen very little action for the last three years and the string is like it was when new. After three years of basically hanging on the rack...I dont have plans on changing it anytime soon.

The bad part.... I dont think they make the Tiger ZS strings any more. I think they make a Zebra Hybrid and Barracuda. Hopefully they are for the better now but other options include Winners Choice , Taylor Made and many other string manufactures.

As far as fletching.... cant give any advice there... still shooting 4"in feathers for my compound & 5"in feathers with my crossbow. I'm a firm believer ...if it aint broke dont fix it. I'm sure some of these other guys gould give you a better insight on this subject.

I switched to the blazer vanes 2 years ago, with awesome results! I shoot 100 grain Muzzy's and they fly like darts! I am getting excellent groups all the way out to 40 yards, same point of impact as field points!

Thanks for all the info. I think he said something about checking to see if the bow was in spec and adjusted accordingly. So I hope this season proves to be a good one!!:D

Check the timing on the bow, and if you change your string, it will only help. Winners choice string is top of the line!

If my string doesnt snap this season and I live till the next I will without a doubt get the string replaced...
The cable was replaced two seasons ago.
