i was mowing my yard and all was going well then i came up on some pretty good sized limbs that blew down in my yard from the recent storms so i put the mower in neutral and left the blade engaged since this was only gonna be a quick on and off chore....well as i was in the process of picking one up the mower jumped into gear (((reverse)) and was coming quickly at me of course i was reaching for the brake, disengage lever, the kill switch anything i could get my hand on....finally turned the key off it didnt scare me at the moment but after continuing on with my mowing i was like WOW that coulda got real bad...doesnt it amzes you how things can turn sour so quickly?
OH Getting Close is on catcha later ....
Glad you made that one a close call. It seems it it always the "just take a second to do" situations that always turn bad.
Closest mower SNAFU I had was a few years ago. Got the push mower out to trim a little, the bolt that holds the collar that holds the blade, broke. The blade comes off, come through the deck of mower, misses my head about 2 inches. It cut a 4" gash through my garage. That Saturday morning at 10:00 AM was a good time to sit down with a STRONG drink!

My brother in law disabled the switch on a snapper riding mower about 2 years ago. His father was out of town so we were all taking turns mowing over at the farm. That Saturday morning my him and my wife went over early that morning to cut the grass. My wife was on the newer model mowing in the back, he was mowing the front. He got a little to close to a ditch, flipped the mower over into said ditch, tried to jump out of the way, and the mower (blades still spinning) landed on his ankle and broke every bone in said ankle. The foot was hanging on by muscle only. He dragged himself up out of the ditch (going into shock and bleeding profusely the entire time). About the time he crested the ditch my wife came around the house and saw him on the ground. She threw him over her shoulder (petite lady, got to love adrenaline) ran him to the jeep, and drove him into Owensboro where the ambulance met him halfway (in a stick shift she didn't know how to drive stuck in 3rd gear doing MPH).
Today he still has his foot by the grace of God, but will walk with a very noticeably limp for the rest of his life. His ankle was fused shut. 24 years old when it happened.
Moral of the story?
If a safety switch goes out on my riding lawn mower, I have it fixed immediately.

I use to work with a man Named Jack Crosley from russellville. He flipped a mower over on himself in a ditch. The blade still turning as he tired fast holding the mower up offf himself. The nut on the single blade deck cut a hole in his belly it got so close. He finally realized there was only one way to stop this thing. he threw his arm in and choked it down. He is minus one arm right now.:(

Sad thing to hear how terrible it could have turned out. Fella's that's what safety's are for Safety...Use them Don't disconnect them as a convenience to you...You might regret it or someone else might down the road.....
