FYI, if you ever get alerts saying that somebody is trying to get into your account, even if there are no bids and other things look ok, go inside of "my ebay" and check the addresses. Change your password too. Some dude got in and put bogus addresses in there. I ordered a hitch for my four wheeler last night and it got shipped to Los Angeles. It was intercepted though, it's on its way to me now. I don't see how they could profit from this though, it was a fake name, fake street address, and fake zip. Strange.

in conjunction with ebay is paypal which is way more likely to get hacked. Mine got hacked about 6 years ago. ebay/paypal blow for security. there's even a website www.paypalsucks.com dedicated to it.

Well what sucks, and what got me, is that your information on eBay is tied to PayPal in a trust relationship. So basically they got into my eBay account, and when they changed the address, PayPal automatically got the new address and also said it was confirmed, so when I paid the guy, all he did was print off a packing slip, and it had the confirmed Los Angeles address on it. They are supposed to use the same address that is on your credit card, and if that matches up, the address is confirmed. They didn't do that, all they did was use whatever billing address was on file at eBay and considered it to be confirmed. That's a pretty big security flaw if you ask me.

yep, and it's been like this for years. Also, good luck on trying to find a phone number for paypal. They don't want you to call them. I happened to have it saved, though, and it's 1-877-6-PAYPAL (1-877-672-9725). Had that number for several years now saved on my computer. Hope u get that mess straightened out!
also, I'd recommend that if you do use paypal to NOT link it to your bank account but just to a credit card. That way, if you get hacked, you have your credit card to fight for you (about the only thing they are good for).
Are you sure you didn't get any emails from a fake ebay?
We have gotten a couple of fake emails that look exactly like Ebay, but the address is different in the toolbar. They wanted us to verify our information (we didn't) but if we had signed in on the fake page, they would have had all our info. Basically we would have transfered our account and info to them.

Yeah, I get those all the time, I thought that's what it was at first when I got the alerts. I even manually went to the eBay site to change the password instead of following any links. They were already in there by the time I was able to change the password apparently.

Everybody knows somebody who's been hacked.

Don't READ or RESPOND or even OPEN emails from your mail server saying they are from ebay or paypal. Go to ebay, log on, and read those mails there, if they are there. IF they are not, then they were scams of some sort seeking entry into your account. You can send thme to ebay but it won't do any good on keeping them from coming. Just ignore and delete, and read ALL of the messages you want to read inside MY EBAY on the ebay site.

Multi is correct -- NEVER open any emails stating they are from Paypal or eBay. If you see these emails, delete them and then go to the actual websites. If eBay or Paypal needs you to update something, etc, they will have that info for you on their site. As long as you follow these rules, you should have no problems with either. Email is where 99% of account hacking takes place.
