Awesome,

Tell us the story...where you hunted, weapon, etc.

I am going to Ontario in less than a month for a black bear with my bow. Do you have any advice?

Thanks for sharing!

I'll not steal his glory and let him tell the story. But, this was his second blackie, we used Oxbow Lodge in Oxbow, Maine both times. Top notch outfit and worth the trip. We along with two other buddies scored on our first trip and all four had rugs made. Three out of six scored last year with me passing on one. I am going to go with a shoulder mount on my next one as well. I really like it. (Wife wanted a rug from the first one I harvested which was O.K. with me.) ;)
By the way, "S" the mount turned out awesome. :)

Did you hunt over bait? Weapon?

What times did you sit in the stand? Spring or fall?

Yes, over bait with guns. Their season opens on the last Monday of August. We hunted in the afternoons right after lunch until after dark when we were picked up by our guide.

That looks awesome.I have a black bear hunt booked for next spring in Idaho.Never even considered a shoulder mount like that,in fact all I have ever seen are rugs or full body mounts.

That's a great looking mount. Where is Martins taxidermy located? Any idea how much he usually charges for a deer mount? I'm looking for a new taxidermist. That is if the deer cooperate this year!!!

I had Steve Pruitt from Galsgow do my rug. When I can post a pic I will. I had mine fixed with the mouth closed, cost less and you don't have to worry about cleaning out dust either. :D

About how much does an average size bear cost to have done into a rug?

My bear weighed in at about 190 pounds and it cost me about $550.00
And the way it turned out, I was O.K. with that price. :)

My apolgies for the delay in re-posting, nobody's fault but my own. As P-Buster explained we went to the Oxbow Lodge in Maine. Tom Asbow runs a top notch first class outfit. These guys go out of their way to assist you in any way possible. We hunted in the afternoon over baited sites. This is not a guarantee kill (no high fences). Three meals a day that would make Ryans buffet look like a value meal at Mickey D's. I have made the trip twice and was successful both trips. Majority of the guys at the lodge were from up state New York and surrounding areas. Talk about about a bunch of country boy's living with the Sapranos for the week. I am reposting some larger pic's of the shoulder mount as requested and also including the partial rug I had made from the first trip. Notice I did not go with the felt backing, I wanted just the hide tanned. Enjoy.
