View Full Version : Hsus Trouble

The Humane Society of the US has made a freedom of information act request to the KDFWR for all of their bear study information.

In other states, when the HSUS does this, they are preparing to fight over the establishment of a bear season. There is every reason to expect that they are preparing to fight any bear season that Kentucky might be considering.

Instead of spending time trying to besmirch the names of commission members, in-fighting and trying to protect turf, we should be using our energy to be prepared to fight this common enemy. All of that other happy horse hockey means nothing if we allow people of this ilk to win the battles that really matter. Are you listening out there? Maybe it's time to point our attention to this matter and let some of the other stuff work itself out.

What do we need to do? We need to be ready to fight for our cause and not wait until it is to late. We are probably a long time from having a bear season but they are already preparing and we should be also. Daking what needs to be done?

Right now, be aware of it. As soon as possible, I'll get with the bear bios at the KDFWR (you know, everybody's favorite punching bag) and I'll let you know. HSUS is most likely going to crunch the numbers to prove there isn't enough bears to hunt. They will also use their dog and pony show to make people sympathetic towards bears. Right now, we just need to keep our ears to the ground and to learn as much about bears, bear hunting and how these folks opposed it in other states.

I subscribe to the PeTA and HSUS websites. I like to see what they're up to. I'm going to research what they've done in other states and that will tell us how we should be prepared for them here. I would urge others to do so. I would also urge others (and I'll do it too) to find out where they are fighting bear seasons right now and figure out how we can help the good guys in those states. Better to fight them on their ground than on ours.

Folks, this is absolutely true. They are fighting it tooth and nail (no pun intended) here in Maryland. This is from their website. http://www.hsus.org/wildlife/wildlife_news/maryland_activists_present_the_bear_facts_to_gover nor_ehrlich.html

They will especially use influence on the more urban population and legislators and use them against those of us that are aware of the real issue. We have a season for now in MD, but with a Democratic governor from Baltimore (170+ murders this year and rising) I'm not sure how long it will last.

Act now and make sure science and wildlife management trumps the tree and bunny huggers.

I agree with your position on the issue of fighting the HSUS, but please leave your rhetoric at the door.

Little jabs like this are irrelevant, unnecessary and counter-productive to the purpose of unifying sportsmen to fight a common foe.

Thanks for the heads up Daking! U R Daking;) We don't need outta staters trying to tell our accomplished game dept how to run our programs! We need to band together on this one & debate merits some other time!

In New Jersey these clowns have made them use "birth control" and forced bear proof garbage cans (at their expense no less instead of HSUS/PETA having to bear the expense THEY caused).....INSTEAD of the proven to work bear hunts they used to have. (btw SCI just joined the fight in NJ to prove those methods are not working)

This is VERY serious folks..........

ahhhh yes the HSUS and their pitbull operative Pam Rodgers.....Throw in Sam Crawford and you have the two key hubs of this organization in Kentucky.........

About a year and a half ago I mentioned this organization was threatening the heritage of sportsmen in this state and it was considered just a local issue......Well while there arent any bears outside the confines of the Louisville Zoo, here in Jefferson County, it seems the HSUS feels it has more than a toe hold in the Commonwealth!

When a very powerful sportsmens organization was threatened to the point of extiction by the HSUS and liberal politicians the majority of this state turned a blind eye........Folks I hate to tell you I told you soooo but I did!

I just hope that the apathy and cynacism that was displayed by some here will not continue on this issue.......

On a related note, I saw where PETA was taking on Hamas for some show that had someone spouting anti-western slogans or something while kicking a dog. They were only concerned for the dog.
