I had that joy not quite 3 years ago now... it was 2 days after we brought our newborn daughter home from the hospital... on my birthday. :(

I feel your pain. I had been putting off getting my ac working in my truck for a year. I finally did last week. $800+ and I have cold air again. My wife might even ride in it now.

AC is expensive...My Ac was not working properly and I couldn't get the Temp in my house below 81 for awhile. I checked everything I could and it all seemed to be working fine. I checked the filter and I guess it had just enough dirt collected on it to not let the AC work like it should. I use the woven white filters my Bro-in-law gets from his place of employment. I buy them by the box and they are very durable, the Ac unit has to work a little harder but the payoff in filtering makes up for it.
So if your AC units are seeming to be a little sluggish, check your filter and change them out. I change mine on the 25th of each month and have it marked on my calendar, so I won't forget. But I guess with all the heat outside, the unit was just working to it's max, and needed a new filter to let the cool air in the house.

Just had mine looked at. Added 2 lbs. freon and cleaned the coils $110. Guess I got off kinda cheap.

Check/Change filters often thru the summer. Many times the problem is dirt buildup on your a Acoil. Take water hose and clean it.

One time, Afew years back, I let the filter below my a coil get dirty and the a coil froze over solid. Now, I change all three at the same time.

3 ton..Gibson unit
I think somewhere I messed up in a career, I must have relitives in the AC/Heat buisness making units. As some of you know my last name is Goodman...I had never hear of Goodman units before but have one here at our house, related to a lot of Gibsons now I find they make units also. You would think somewhere along the line I should get a nice discount....:D

Just a few weeks ago ..I noticed with the temps nearing a 100 that my unit was doing all it could do but not maintaining the temp set at the stat. I borrowed the guages, from a hvac buddy of mine and my discharge pressure was 150 and should of been around 180 with the outside temp being around 98 ... I ended up putting in about 2lbs of freon as well to get the pressures right. It took it awhile to catch up but cross my fingers..its doing well right now for a 12 year old unit. Doing it myself... I was out 40 bucks for the R-22.
Some advice for what its worth...... filter replacement is critical but cleaning your coils is just as important. Over the years I usually just take the waterhose and wash the coils out the best I could through the intake louvers. While I was working on it the other day... my hvac buddy asked if I ever had it cleaned using coil cleaner. He loaned me some and I stripped the unit down...bet I took out 50 screws to get the coils exposed. I sprayed it down with the coil cleaner....it foamed up and after a few minutes began washing down. What I thought was clean from just using the waterhose ... this thing was filthy. I ended up spraying coil cleaner on it twice and washing ...you wouldnt believe the gunk that come out of it. There was no way I had been getting proper heat transfer. Coils look now like they did when it was brand new.
If you unit had'nt been properly cleaned...I'd highly advise it.
Duster... my unit is a GMC.... Goodman Manufacturing Company. Its built comparable to a Rheem. Its been a good unit ... 3 ton split / Nat. Gas Pack.

What do you mean you change all (3) at the same time...Am I missing two filters that should be changed as well?
