Besides a Jig & Pig, what is your favorite rig for pitching into heavy wooded cover? I'm asking because I've been pitching a pegged creature bait (Strike King Wild Thang), but I'm losing confidence as the bites are becoming fewer. Guys in our league are still catching good fish from the wood, but they are not sharing what they are using (that's fishing buddies for ya). Maybe you guys can give me some ideas.

I like to pitch a 10 inch red shad worm. Peg it an send it on a suicide mission. We used to have cover very deep and the bigger more action baits seemed to work better. Just make sure and fish it extremely slow and hopefully it will produce for ya.

I have found lately that the fish are not wanting big baits. We have been fishing small worms with 1/8 ounce weight. Seems as though the fish are becoming a little skidish. We fished this pattern Friday night and had 12.5 pounds in 4 hours. Good luck

I'll second that.

plastic crawfish, or as I call it a craw worm. or a big tube.

I started using the 3.5in pumpkinseed tubes this year...and won't go back to worms unless I run out of tubes. I have landed more keepers this year on tubes than the last 3 years on anything

Flipping tube, straight tailed worm or brush hog.

I used to flip a 6-8'' strawberry gater tail worm with glitter at them on a 1/8 ounce weight. I say used to because I haven't tournament fished for a few years now or even bass fished from a boat for a while. Nothing wrong with it I just lost interest.

Thanks for the suggestions.....
I'll try switching to tubes and maybe the paca craw. Who makes the 10" red shad worm? We have one more league night, so I'm going out in style!

Okay, I took your advise and bought a pack of paca craws and rigged some Berkley flipping tubes. Went out to practice before Tuesday night. Caught a 1.7 lb on the paca craw and a 3.2 and 3.4 on the Berkley flipping tube. That would have been enough weight to possibly finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd (Three fish limit in our Tues. night league). So on Tuesday night, I'm hoping to do the same or better and I'll keep you all posted. Its our last week before the year-end tournament and I want this one bad after a dismal season full of mistakes, backlashes and lost fish.

Culprit make a fine 10". Zoom trick worms are hard to beat also.

Berkley makes a 10'' red shad power worm.
My fave pitchin lure for wooded areas is the senko. They hit it on the slow fall. Perfect bait for cover.

Well I said I would post our results from our last league night using new baits. Unfortunately we only had 4.95 pounds (three fish fish limit). I did catch a 2.5 pounder on the paca craw, but the weather was in the low 60's and windy, which made the bite tough (winners had only 7.5 lbs.). I do so well outside Tuesday night, but when Tues. night rolls around, we choke. We are in 11th place out of 20 teams heading into the final year end tournament and our goal is to finish 5th but we will probably need an 18 pound or better limit to get there (five fish in the tourney). Anyway, I really like the paca craw and experimented with it on a large lake nearby (Seneca Lake) and caught some nice smallies and largemouth.
