At the tender age of 44 I finally landed my first legal muskie. I was'nt fishing for muskie, he just must have wanted that lil' 3 inch deep divin' crank I was fishing with at the time. He was 33 inches, not a brute by any means, but a monster to me. I also saw the two big monsters that could have eaten him again today. Also got a 19 inch smallie, and a coupla drum.It was a good day of fishing, and now I can say I have finally caught a keeper muskie.
I figure I better edit this, when I said "legal" I meant over 30 inches, and no, I have never kept any, the only other one I managed to land was 26 inches and he went back!
trust me

Cave Run, or Licking River?
Congrats on the fish! I've landed a few small ones in the North Fork and battled a maybe-keeper in Cave Run for a minute or so, but I've never actively gone after them. Maybe some day.

Got him in the Licking.Yes, this will sound like a fish tale, but, I saw 2 more that could almost eat him! I have never actively fished for them either, but the river has plenty and you see and hook them pretty consistantly.

I have seen the 2 brutes on my last 2 trips down there. My Uncle asked after the first sighting if maybe there was a sturgeon that had somehow made it's way into the Licking.:D

I've caught two keeper muskie...both at Green River. When I was in college at Morehead, I would spend what little money I had on muskie baits....to only go out on Cave Run and lose them. I finally wised up and stopped fishing from the banks...LOL
The first muskie I caught at Green River was on a pumkin seed/purple flake 3" tube. The other one I caught on a Bandit 200...in rootbeer.
Congratulations!!
